Hey all,
New to these boards, but not exactly to PCs. Anyway, I have obtained a AIUHB 2100+ currently running at 2700+ on an Epox 8RDA+ and some generic, OCS (not OCZ) PC3200 which I suspect of being PC2700 as it does not like to go over 180FSB. The question for you guys is, how long to run prime 95 for? 18 hrs and my oc is still rock solid no errors from the torture test which I am running alongside SiSoft Sandra's burn-in process. MBM reports the cpu temp as 43ºC and the NB as 32ºC. How does that sound and how much longer should I keep testing it for?

prime95 is most accurate when it runs alone. in most cases if you can pass the first section of torture test which consists of around 26 tests then you'll probably gonna be fine and stable. personally i always take that result and lower my fsb just 1 or 2 more to ensure stability to run it 24/7. your CPU and NB temp is just fine

Welcome to PCStats Dunkelzahn!!!!

I usually will let Prime95 run about 2 or 3 hours then run 3DMark2001SE for a couple of hours...if there are no restarts or lockups then I will call it good.

Nice OC BTW!!

Hmm, makes sense. I don't see why using it alone could be better, the idea is to create maximum stress on your components. An Athlon can handle that, it has more than enough FPU power to handle a few more apps at the same time.
As for GNXtreme, that OC is a bit misleading, until I get better RAM (isn't this always the case) I can't go much higher and I am already using very relaxed RAM timings. 2.5-3-3-7 But some HyperX will fix me up good. I have some Corsair XMS but it won't work in my 8RDA+. Seems to be a common problem, so either HyperX or Mushkin will do.

the reason why using prime95 alone is because the instructions given by the prime is way much more intense than any other burn test like sandra or 3dmark. the purpose is to stress the cpu to the maximum level. therefore, by letting it run by itself will ensure the maximum stress. i've tried running it with background programs and some other programs and trust me i could passed the tests all the time. util i then realized by letting it run alone it finally picked up some calculation errors. once prime is done will then run 3dmark for a final test. you're asking for suggestions and here it is, my experience with Prime95, hope you take it into considerations.

sorry to raise your hackles HowardBAM! wan't intentional. I ran it 12 hrs alone and still no problems I'm gonna take your advice and keep running it alone for future tests, but when I run it alone it only makes my cpu temp hit 43ºC where as it idles at 38ºC.

Grrr... It's always the luck of the draw, my current combo with that crappy RAM has topped out at 2700+ speeds, if I go to 2280Mhz it immediately catches an error in Prime95, I will run memtest on the RAM as I hope it is causing the fault not the processor. I bought it with high hopes of overclocking the daylights out of it

LOL>... what RAM are those... sorry to hear that dude! i got some corsair PC2700 RAM for sale if you're interested. they're 2x512 PC2700 C2 with black heatspreader.

I have Corsair RAM, it won't play with my Epox 8RDA+ hence I have crap RAM in there. Maybe your suggestion of Golden Dragon GeIL will work

you know i think that's just more of a compatibility problem with the Corsair PC3500 and 8RDA+ board. zaltec had the same problem too. i think anything besides that PC3500 module will work fine

PC3500...interesting...and you say the Maztican God of War had a problem with that? I thought the Harpers agreed not to let technology into the Realms? Or was it the Gods after the ToT?

*sorry for the geekiness, couldn't resist seeing as someone's name is Zaltec That's so funny

you're confusing me on the whole greek mythology there Dunke! or whatever mythology. zaltec is a member of ours who used to hang out here a lot. he's just a a little caught up with work right now. hopefully he'll be back soon . i hope you're reading this zaltec!!

Ah...well I am an übergeek...was wondering is anyone else here was.
Zaltec is the name of a God of War, from a land called Maztica, in the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons game published by Wizards of the Coast, formerly by TSR. In these realms the gods, Elminster and the Harpers (a magic society) have decreed that technology will remain banned form the land, technology like gunpowder and the like.
So I was laughing at the fact someone with a god's name had problems with technology. It's bad karma to start with...a very anti-technology nick to pick
I wonder if Zaltec plays the FRCS?

LOL!!!... yeah... talking about irony!!>. that explains it.. i was gonna ask zaltec where he got his name from.
