Hey all,
I was playing with my Tbred 1700(AIRGA) on my MSI K7N2 mobo and set the multiplier up to 13 and the fsb to 155, when I saved the settings and booted back up windows was displaying 776 MHz... I can go in and lower the multiplier to 12.5 with the same fsb and it boots up at 1.95GHz...is it possible that the chip just will not handle the 13x? I was just wondering.

Does the BIOS say 13X/5X or just 13X?

I think the lower t-breds don't have the multiplier 13 and above unlocked...

i think its only the t-bred 2200xps and above have those multipliers...

BAM!

the 1700+ has the upper ultiplyers (12 and above) locked by default. in fact FTO is right.. any t-bred below 2000+ has higher multiplyers locked. as far as i know, only some motherobards can manually specify and access those locked multiplyer, 8RDA+ and N7F-S as far i know. your MSI shouldn't have problem going to a higher fsb. if you really want higher mutli, it's not hard to unlock the chip. i've been performing surgeries on 3 of my T-breds .

Thanks guys...that is what I was thinking....but BAM!...you say 12 and higher....I am currently running 12.5x156=1950MHz and it works...

BAM!

oopss.. you're right.. good looking out.. i meant 12.5 i am currently running 12.5 also

I've got the same board and the 13x is 5x thats just the way it works I'm waiting on nVoverclock to come out to see what my barton can really do. Also they limit the FSB to 200 as well.

It depends on the board. The Abit NF7-S ver1.2 and ver2.0 gives me full use of all multipliers.

So does NF7-S v1.0. Abit is supposed to have this 5bit technology that gives you all the multipliers.

well fellas...I seem to have hit another "bump" in my overclocking road....

my main rig the 2100 seems to be topping out at a 180MHz FSB....
I believe this is due to my PC2700 333MHz ram...probably maxing out at 360MHz.

I am currently running 12.5x180...2250MHz
my next step will be to get better ram...but that will be a while....

Lower your settings to 2-3-3-6 and you should be able to get close to 200FSB. Or you can run your RAM in async mode.
Well sh!t Dean....I think the RAM timings in my siggy are off...I am even higher than you suggested and still just barely getting over 180MHz....and yeah I will probably take shiznit's advice and run async....

I guess Crucial is just crap for overclocking. What is the RAM rated for and what settings are you using anyways? I assume you tried the 'Auto' or 'SPD' setting.

Well, I got the 1700 back up and running after the PSU died...now I can't for the life of me get it to overclock over 2.0GHz...I was able to get it up to 1.98GHz running stable, that's not really a big deal to me...it is the wife's computer and it is an AIRGA so I wasn't expecting too much out of it and am pleased with the 1.98GHz.

My problem is that programs open up real slow and it takes forever to come back from the screen saver...would that be somehow software related or is it a hardware problem?

Yeah, thanks for all the responses here....I figured it out anyway...turned out to be norton f u cking up....
