Or do they just stop working when you go too far?
I am wondering what sort, if any, warnings you get that you are pushing your machine to far?
Does it just start playing up so you unclock it a little to fix or does it just stop?

Smoking is bad for you and your computer.

At least that's what the Surgeon General keeps saying.

LOL Dean. Good one.
Remik, the CPU will only smoke if you remove the HSF completely, and then it will go up in smoke in less than 3 seconds. Usually what happens if you push your processor too far, is that it won't post, or will crash everytime you try to open a program in Windows. As long as you have a good cooler on that thing and don't push the vcore voltage over 1.85v you should be okay. If it does reach a point where you can't post, just shut it down, clear the CMOS and start all over again.

By clear the CMOS, do you mean flick the little battery thing out?

I realise this is possibly newby stuff, but thats me.

Lately i have had to RMA my Ti4200 (just like everyone else in the world) and then my mobo went belly up. No usual with ASUS boards so i am told. So am wondering wtf i did if anything. Have ordered a Coolmaster hac-v81 kit with a t-3b thermal probe to monitor things properly. HOPE it wont happen again.. as far as i can figure it wasn't anything i did or was doing, just a bit of rotten luck.

Either remove the battery or switch the jumper that should also be somewhere around there. I find the jumper to be easier to use than trying to get that darn battery to pop out. lol.
How did your mobo "go belly up?" Did it just stop posting? Clearing the CMOS should fix that. If not, you may have a corrupted BIOS, and excaliberpc.com carries BIOS survival kits with instructions on how to get things running again.

Yeah, it just stopped posting. I did flick the battery out but alas. When i pulled the ram module out it beeped but back in nothing. I tucked my machine under my arm and took it into the shop. Kinda got beyond me at that point.

The up shot is i get a new mobo and i have a much better understanding of it. AND if the importer cant get one then they will get a newer one. I live in hope.

So the shop didn't have an extra BIOS to hot swap your original one with? I'll bet that was what was wrong with it.
Sorry to hear about it Remik. I await an RMA number from excaliberpc.com for my NF7-S and 1700+JIUHB. Shouldn't have taken this long, so maybe I'll send another email to find out what their problem is.

FYI - By the time you see smoke, it's too late.

That's why you should always listen to the Surgeon General. "Smoking can kill you" and your PC.
