Man, I can't get this damn thing to OC at all. Even when I set the divider to 200/66/33 it won't boot. Not even if I just increase the multiplier to 13 from 12.5, still won't boot. It has to have something to do with the IDE, because when I try to boot with anything other than 166 by 12.5x the CD/RW and DVD ROM drives alternatively light up and switch for about 2 minutes and then nothing. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I am getting incredibly discouraged here.
try unplug all optical IDE devices (cdrom) and all PCI devices and leaving only 1 HDD, memory, agp and processor. it does sound like some sort of bottleneck.

Chuck that crap. Sell it or give it away and get a nForce2 board.

Dean That is exactly what I did with my Soyo board....I sold it to my buddy who could care less about overclocking, for 125.00 with an old xp1800 palo....

The funny thing was that he was just tickled pink to have it. Then I got my NF7-S....have not looked back since....

LOL, yeah. I may do just that with mine. A coworker has asked me to price a system for her. She just gave me $20 for fixing her P166 and 486 systems (junk!). LOL.
Still, does anyone have suggestions for getting the thing to boot at somewhat of an overclock? I just updated to the newest BIOS and that damn thing got rid of the great RAM timings (2-6-2-2 is lowest-no more 2-5-2-2) as well as the /6 PCI divider. What a POS....

could have a bad stick of ram....bad bios flash.......bad cpu (ya never know) or the combo of it all just might not work with each other.....comps can be crappie like that anytime they feel like it!!

P.S. geta nforce2 board lol

go easy on him rithemking....he's new here...LOL!

brandt, in case you didn't know rithemking has had a nForce2(NF7-S) and I believe it is presently being RMA'd...although it was for his 1700.

but yeah rithemking get rid of the Soyo and go for another nForce2....
I also have a Soyo KT-400 Dragon Platnium Edition that I bought for 130.00!! And it is the worst board I have ever had!

It's boasts all this overclocking capability etc... and it can't do cr@p. The minute you change any settings on the motherboard it will just cease to boot. It's a great board for those whom don't overclock. If it would overclock that would be wonderful because the motherboard has loads of options in the bios. I have had Soyo boards before but I was never into overclocking previously. Now that I am a performance freak I am very disappointed with the board overall. When I was switching out my KT-266 to this newer KT-400 I noticed about 2/3rd's of the capacitors were leaking and bulging on the old board. So Soyo also uses crap parts in their boards as well.

The fact is I didn't investigate before a made a buying decision and now I am paying the price as I can't afford to change it out right now.

Bad capacitors were a problem for the entire motherboard market (there are threads on this somewhere), so that wasn't just due to SOYO's manufacturing process. I have to say that my KT400 is a very stable board at stocks speeds. You may not have done any research before you purchased yours, but I did and I still got screwed. All the reviews overclocked theirs at least a little. I was talking to GNX the other night and it may be due to the fact that our CPUs are both already 333FSB stock, and all the reviewers were using 266 CPUs. After I get my Abit back up and running (tonight or tomorrow) with the 1700+ and have tired of benchmarking again I will swap out the 2800+ in my SOYO and see if the 1700+ will OC in it.
BTW, the overclocker BIOS on the SOYO site has more options in the AGP/PCU divider than the current one does. Not to mention the current one won't let me run my Corsair at 2-5-2-2 (6 is the lowest).
Yeah, I am so dissapointed in their product.

I had the same problem. I CAN OC my system, but it's not stable at all. I do believe it is my CPU. The thing is, if I lower the multiplier so that the CPU frequency is close to stock, and raise the FSB, it's still unstable. I've tried putting 1.85v into it, and that doesn't help.

I've got a Thermaltake Volcano 7+. The thing rarely ever goes over 40C, even on medium fan speed with folding. I've been folding for almost 3 hours now and the temp is at 38 on medium, although it isn't a very warm day. I'd say mid to high 20's.
