hey guys i just got my new system that i plan on overclocking. the thing is that when i go into the bios it won't let me adjust the timeing for the memory or anything. i have the corsair 512 mb XMS pc3200 that is supposed to be cas2 with the aggresive timings but the bios has it at 2.5 cas and something like 8-3-3-3. any help would be appreciated.

I believe you need to select an option somewhere else for manual. It is probably set at Normal and has options for Fast and Turbo as well. So you finally got it to boot up for the first time? What RAM did you use?

you have to set the ram to expert mode, then it lets you play with the timings in the bios

Thanks FTO!
Any luck omga14? I see you have it running at 2GHz in your sig. Is that as far as you have been able to get it?

Just really started to play with it. that is what i was able to get it to before i knew about the expert thing. i hear that you have to bump the voltage sometimes for the core of the cpu and the same with the memory when your overclocking that too. where do i do this? i know "f*&%$# new guy" but you all have been top notch helpfull so far. i don't want to do anything to much without knowing about the voltage issue. thanks.

We've all been the @^%($#new guy at one time or another. LOL!
Don't mess with the voltage until you have overclocked it to a point where it is no longer stable (won't run Prime95 past 24 iterations). Then raise the voltage slowly to see if you can't get it stable at that clock speed. To get 2.4GHz on my JIUHB I was running 200FSB by 12x and had the CPU core at 1.85v (highest recommended for safe computing) and the GEIL RAM running 2.7v (I think). What vid card do you have in that system?

If you want to change your voltages go to the first thing on the right hand column in your bios. It should be called power something. I don't remember what it is exactly called.

running a chaintech geforce 4 mx 420. i want to save up and get the best in the next 6 months or so. by then the bugs and stuff should have shown up in the newest cards and overclocking abilities on them as well. just want the best. i heard that there is a game out the uses the full directx 9.0 capabilities now. anyone know what it's called. i think that tron 2.o does too but i haven't seen anything to confirm this.

Just some info about the 8rda+ mobo, i have that one too and i had to update the bios (manually cuz the auto prog didnt get the newest) cuz the corsair twinx mem was having compatibility brobs, each time i tried to change its speed (from 200 back to 133 and vise versa) the comp wudnt start so i had to replace the mem for the comp to actually get the mem test and give me access to bios...

Definitely update the BIOS. Roy said the latest has resolved that restart issue.

my current bios for the epox 8rda+ is dated 6/09/03. does anyone know if there is a newer one. a freind of mine said he thought there was a 6/11/03 but i don't see it on the epox website.
