I think he means what the best OC setting would be BAM!
If you can get the same clock speed (MHz), the one using the highest FSB and lower multiplier would be the one that is most noticeable faster between the two.
Ie: 2.4GHz can be had using 200FSB by 12x or by 240FSB by 10x. The latter would be faster (providing both run stable).
Thanks for the replys guys, and you did answer my question rithemking, thank you. But it's a moot point now. Seems my PSU decided to die on me tonight. Anyone know if Enermax have had problems in the past? This thing is only about 60 days old.
Hi there guys, got a question that it'll take an AMD fan to answer. It seems I've got an unlocked P4 3.0c CPU. I need some advice on how to decide what to set the multiplier at. 15x is default setting, I have it at 14x now with 230fsb and all is very stable. You AMD guys deal with this all the time and I was hoping you might could help me out.

This OCing seems like it could become addictive, and EXPENSIVE...

Later....
ok... but you forgot to ask what part you need help on.

How on earth did you manage to get an unlocked P4??

Only certain Engineering Samples are unlocked.

<< How on earth did you manage to get an unlocked P4?? >>

That's what I was thinkin. You should be able to crank the FSB up on that thing. I think that P4's are limited in their FSB speed cause the CPU maxes out. If you hit something unstable, lower your multiplier and see if the FSB will go higher. It would be VERY nice to have an unlocked P4 3.0C.

DOH!!! That sucks Farmer. Sorry to hear about the PSU (GNX can empathize here...). If you have the dough, PC Power and Cooling makes very high quality PSUs.

Ok guys, how I got a unlocked P4, I don't know. About April 1st I started sending out inquiries about when they would be having the 3.0c's in stock. I finally got a reply that there was 1 CPU and 1 Intel mobo in stock and did I want it? Well this was before the launch date, and I can't wait for $hit when I want something so I bought them. The Intel board turned out to be problems. I couldn't flash the Bios. Called Intel support, gave the guy serial #'s and he kinda went nuts. Said this was an evaluation sample, shouldn't have been put in retail, and that the CPU was an enginering sample. Well That I didn't really believe at the time so I moved on. Never could get the Intel Bios to flash and finally got a chance to RMA the board. Told them to send me the IC7 Abit which they did, no probs. I start looking around in the Bios and see the multiplier option. Said 8x-15x. I thought I would try it and see if it would change the speed, and according to CPU-Z, it did lower the multiplier. So that's the story. Nothing dramatic, just lucky, UNTIL THE PSU DIED...

Yeah rithemking, the PC Powercooling is what I really would like to have, but the wait time is killing me. I can go to Best Buy in Annapolis, if I can get across the Bay Bridge this weekend, and get an Antec and be moving again...

Later....

Well, you can't win them all I guess.

My Antec 350W has been trouble free for 2 years now. I had an Enermax 430W before, actually i still have it but just don't want to use it.

Where did you get the P4 from? I'll get my next P4 from them.
Sorry I've been so slow getting back. Suns finally been shining and I'm working Late...

Turns out that it was not the PSU but the motherboard that died. Seems odd that it would die after two days but it did. So now I'm waiting for an Asus P4C800 to get here. I'll soon be doing the mobo of the week.

The CPU I found out is only particually unlocked. I can't go higher than 15x, but can go back to 8x. Would seem that going back would offer more options with raising the fsb like you all said. Hopefully the Asus Bios will give me the multiliper options.

I got the CPU from Monarch Computer in Georgia. They were the only one to respond that they had one available before release. It seems to be just a luck thing, and at that, doesn't seem that I've been very lucky so far...

Thanks for the replys guys....
