what do you mean open ports for games? do you want to do lan parties or something? if you do just open the game and create a game in the multiplayer mode and the other computers should detect there is a lan game going on. if it dont then just refresh the list. did this answer your question?

Nah. I can create multiplayer games but the router is designed to hide my IP from other people. I need to know how to open specific ports on the router for games and such so that my server can be seen on the Internet.
Thanks anyway.

didnt your router come with a cd? mine did. there is something called dzm hosting that will disable the firewall. this is what it says on my cd for windows 2000.

- Right-click on My Network Places.
- Left-click on Properties.
- Double-click on Local Area Connection.
- Click on the Properties button.
- Highlight TCP/IP, then double-click on it.
- Select "Use the following IP address." Then enter the IP address 192.168.1.(2-99).
- Under the Gateway tab, enter in a default gateway of 192.168.1.1.
- Under the DNS tab, enable DNS Configuration.

To use DMZ Hosting, IP Forwarding, or IP Filtering, you must set a static IP address for that PC under the TCP/IP Settings tab.

You can use DHCP and a static IP address at the same time, which ensures that your PC will automatically have an IP address pulled, whether or not you manually assign a static IP address.

The Router uses IP addresses that start with 192.168.1.( ). If the IP address is static, the last number is between 2 and 99. If the IP address is dynamic, the last number is 100 or greater.

For example, 192.168.1.43 is a static IP address. 192.168.1.127 is a dynamic IP address.

To set a static IP address, make sure to enter all four pieces of data below under the Setup Tab of the Setup Window:

hope that helps more. i pulled it from the cd. i hope someone else can sum it up better for you though

I don't think I can use a static IP because my service has Dynamic IP addresses.

But anyway, I used Port Forwarding to open the right ports for my games. It works for one game but creates a whole new set of problems for Battlefield 1942. If I try to host a game, the loading screen will come up but before it finishes loading, it will crap out and bring me back to the desktop. So I can't even host. But I can connect and play on other servers. Wierdest thing...
BTW thanks for your help man, it means a lot to me.

What I do if I want to host, is I set my DMZ host to the computer I'm hosting from. I use linksys too, so I go to my web browser, type in 192.168.1.1 into the address bar, and then go advanced, and then DMZ. Then type in the LAN IP of the computer you want to host from, and it should work fine for hosting.

you can use a function on the router to do 'port forwarding' this is easy enought to use. most of the time to access the router settings eneter the ipaddress of the router into your browser
