View Full Version : Memory and Overclocking?
Hey guys, another question from the d*mb farmer here. I gonna overclock this P4 3.0c. I have PC3200 CorsairXMS rated 2-2-2-6. Would it make things easier from a pure OC'ing standpoint to go with PC3500, 2-3-3-7, or PC3700, 3-4-4-8? The timings seem really loose to me on this higher ram, but some reviewers said that the Canterwood boards react more to pure power than they do the tighter timings. Now, this could just be this reviewers opinion. Also Corsair is trying to sell this theory.

I remember reading Colin's 3DMark Tweak Guide, that tightening the memory timings did very little to increase the score. Was just wondering if the same thing applied here?

Later....

Higher FSB is more important than lower latency timings. So I would go with the PC3700 (if you can afford them!!!). However, you should be able to tweak the memory timings to lower them anyways. Many ram can handle more aggressive timings than what they are advertised for. You'll just have to experiment and see if your ram can handle lower latencies. Again, higher FSB is more important for overall performance than ram timings.

If you're goin with OCZ PC3700, it clearly states not to lower the latency even at slower mhz. Also, you might wanna check out Kingston HyperX PC4000 modules. mmmmm...PC4000

I've only heard bad things about OCZ ram. I would go with Corsair.
Yeah, OCZ doesn't really do it for me. Read to much bad press about the company in general...

I have a credit with a vendor and I could get 2x256 PC3700 for about $140. Might just give it a go! Thanks for the help...

Later....

Hopefully I can keep picking the brains of the guys here and be able to take full advantage of all this expensive hardware...

Later....

I have never had any probs with OCZ. I like em, and would buy their product again.

Just my 2 cents.
