Ok, guys. I'm sure you're all sick of hearing how my system won't OC at all. Well, I finally got some increases in speed. Right now the FSB is at 165, with 1.85 VCore, and 2.9 Vdimm. I think the RAM voltage wasn't high enough before, cause now I can pass Prime95. I'll see if I can go any higher, and maybe start upping the multiplier instead.

Update: I found that 166 is unstable, and currently retesting 165. My RAM timings are at 6-2-2-2.5. Now I'm just going to see how high I can raise the multiplier, since currently it is at 11, to keep CPU speed near stock.

Congrats on the OC Viper....doesn't it feel good?!

Well, it did. Right now I've had to back down to 160x11. I'm pretty sure that is stable. The odd thing is, I can't raise the multiplier any higher. If I were to raise it to 11.5 now, it would generate errors in Prime95. Earlier today it was stable at 164. Now, it's UNstable at 163, so I'm tryin 160. I'll keep tryin tonight, and I'll let you know.

Would this help me fold any faster? Is there any real noticeable performance increase by raising the FSB, but not the multiplier?

Raising the multiplier only increases the performance of your cpu, but raising the fsb increases the speed of the cpu and all other system components such as your ram and videocard (basically everything connected through your northbridge).

A faster CPU no matter how you get there will help with your folding...when I hit 2.37GHz with mine it was folding with mad skillz! Then the damn PSU blew up...lol...that sux!

I can't raise the multiplier at all. If I try to go over anything relatively close to stock, then it is unstable. I have it at 1.85GHz right now, and if I raise the multiplier to 12, it won't work properly. I don't think I should raise the Vcore any higher, because it is at 1.85 right now.

You have to remember Viper, that the raising the multiplier puts the most stress on the CPU, and that Palomino is probably already maxed out, seeing as it was their last model(correct me if I am wrong). 1700+ T-breds are really cheap right now. Why don't you look into picking one up? I got my 0308 from svc.com for about $60, though right now I think they only have 0319's at the same price. Newegg is a gamble, but both Shiznit and Juan managed to get JIUHB's (Juan's is a DUT3C, not a DLT3C though).

There's one thing wrong with your post, rithem. I don't have a Palomino, but rather a T-bred. At least that's what CPU-Z is telling me. The core looks rather rectangular as well. And as for getting a 1700, I live in Canada, and they are about $100 in the store. I don't have any credit cards (only 17), and I can't really afford any upgrades at the moment. I would if I could, but I can't.

My bad. LOL. Still, do you have any idea what the manufacture date is on that chip? I haven't heard anything great about the RIUGA.
Stay away from credit cards, they can lead to bad things, I know from personal experience (car accident caused all kinds of problems). You're better off saving the money until you have enough. I forgot about you being Canadian, but that still doesn't change the fact that they are fairly inexpensive, regardless of the type of currency.
Anyhow, I have only recently been able to afford the set-ups I have (just this year) and I am 29 years old. I would love to have been able to afford something like what you have now.

I think I paid a little too much for some of my parts tho. And I got the burner for Christmas. I had been saving for a new computer for quite a while. I did have the manufacture date written down somewhere, but I can't find it. I'm pretty sure it was late 2002.

Manufacture date? You know enough to build your own system! I will never go back to pre-fab. Especially after finding out how screwed you are when a piece of hardware fails, and their warranty only covered 1 year (while the HDD has a sticker on it stating 3...).

I'd go with GNX on this one and lay off the heavy sh!t.
