No hard feelings mang!!!!

We like to give each other a hard time here....we also like to see big numbers...so go for it....

Definitely!!! We totally support you, farmer man, go for it and make us all proud. I really think the spirit of pcstats is not what you have but what you do with it, getting the most bang out of it you can. I've tried virtually everything I could to oc my rig and now I'm happy to have mine zipping along at 2.2 GHz. Of course this doesn't come close to some of the oc people like BAM! or GNX have gotten, but it is a matter of luck what kind of cpu you get. Important thing to me is that I've learned a ton about computers and overclocking from pcstats. The people are pretty cool, too!

Well thanks guys, I feel a tad bit more comfortable now. I'm here to learn, not to run my mouth, so I hope you guys feel like teaching me...

Here's where I'm at now.I raised the FSB to 240 with the multiplier still at 13x. I finally saw some good results, with almost 19k 3DMarks.I think I still have a bit of room to move up, so I might keep going at the 13x for awhile. The ram timings are a bit loose at 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.75v. I'll just keep tweaking a little at a time and see where it takes me...

Later....

Ok men, I finally got a new motherboard in, an Asus P4P800 Dlx. They sent the wrong one!!! After raising all hell and my phone bill they made an adjustment on $ and I kept the board.

Now the skinny. Right now everything is at default with their "HyperPath" enabled. Memory timings are real loose at 2.5-4-4-8. I'm gonna take a day or two to just have some fun with this thing and do some games before I start messin with it again. Now I put a Zalman 7000Cu HS/fan on the CPU, and for right now will keep the PC3200 ram. After checking the Bios, I can take the CPU about anywhere within it's limits. The Abit had me at 8x-15x. This Asus, I kept going up to see if it would stop me and it never did. Going down is what I think I need to do tho. Anyway, I ran 3DMark01 @ default settings and got a first score of 18605. Now, I know this isn't great, but I thought it was a good starting point.

I'll come back when I start changing stuff, and if you all have ideas I'd appreciate them...

Later....
18605 isn't great?!

I'm sorry but I would be happy to have 18k on 3DMark...of course my video card is limiting me on that one...but still getting almost 19k is not too shabby. But yeah you should be able to do a lot higher than that...(damn I am starting to sound like Colin)

I was only going by what DeanLowe said about a P4 3.0c. It's all relative...

And you know, sounding like Colin isn't a bad thing!! I wouldn't be feeling so alone here... j/k

Later....

I'm sure if you OC your CPU and your Vid Card that you could probably break 20k, and maybe even beat Colin's high score, which is 22132. That's number is higher than I last saw with the P4 and 9700 PRO. He's got a 9800 PRO now.

LMAO! Yeah farmer, I'd love to have 18k as my starting point. Best of luck in your OC endeavors!

yeah your starting point almost doubles mine...but hey I get what I can afford...suits me fine too.

Go for the MAX farmer....we like to see high numbers!!!

Now if I can just win that 9800 Pro from the pcstats contest, maybe my starting score can be 18K, too, LOL!!! I've really had to work my way up (cpu and vc oc plus voltage and agp port tweaks) to just break 14k myself.

What kinda rig does Colin have? and do you think he'll get a P5 just to leave everyone in the dust?

TranceJunkieXL

Well, seeing as he just got himself a Prometeia cooler, he probably will end up dishing out for either a P5 system or the AMD 64 (whichever benchmarks faster at time of release). He likes to be on the top of things, that guy.

He must have some sweet cash flow around him. I wish I had his problem.

He's had some luck with investing. Wish I had, sigh....

Well fellows, seems I'm kinda embarassed here. I only post my score so you all know where things stand. I'm still a total n00b at this, so if I manage to say the wrong thing it's not intentional, and I doubt I'll ever get good enough to even get near Colin's score. If I can reach 20k, I'll feel I reached what I was working for...

Where I'm at: FSB is 230 w/ 13x multiplier. I'm trying to keep the CPU around 3.0 for a few days to let the paste set up and see how my temps are. With the 230 I had to change the ratio from 1:1 to 5:4. That really slowed things down a lot. I'm gonna try raising the CPU some tonight and see what happens...

Thanks for the replys...

Later....

Hey Farmer, with GNX around you have to remember to dish it right back at him. Ask him about his luck with PSUs. LOL!
That OC sounds great, and close to 19K is more than I've been able to do. I think my max with the 2800+/ATI9700Pro combo was 16342, but that was on the SOYO. I'm going to swap out my Ti4200 sometime this week and give the Abit another go with my 1700+ overclocked to 2.448 (stable no less) See if I can't match DeanLowe's numbers! I found that using more aggressive timings on the RAM only gained me about 300 points or so (GEIL is 2-6-3-3 recommended, and the 16342 was only 200FSB 2-6-2-2 with PC3500). Colin has published a very helpful article on all the things that can be tweaked to increase your score.
