90C is unreal. Have you updated your BIOS? There have been a few threads (GNXtreme I think) started about a temperature reading fix that was included in a newer BIOS.
If your HS is cool to the touch then it isn't transferring heat from the CPU properly. My Swiftech MCX462+ is quite warm with the CPU running 2.438, even with a Vantech Tornado blowing at 5k+ rpms constantly. My video coolers are even hotter to the touch.
and what do you mean when you overclock a little it goes to 0 degrees and doesn't run? Are you saying it won't post? I'm not understanding some of what you have said in this thread.

im a litle confussed still theres that one saying its runing at 35 degrees celcious whre as the bios says 80 decrees C (i know the diff between F and C) but thing is now the heatsing fan is temperature controlled on teh maual is says if it goes up to 75 degrees C it will go at 5500 rpm say at 60 it will be at 3500-4000 etc rpm

anyone know if the EpoX 8K3a mobo can take a 2400XP??? chip it says it can take up to 266 FSB and the 2400 is 266 but in teh manual im sure it said up to 2000xp

anymore help on that matter? think my 1800 is screewed anyone want to offer me money for this abnormal cpu and if they use liquid nitrogen and get the temp down to 30 lol theyd be laughing as then they can over clock the hell out of it and get back up to 90+ degrees C and stable

Right where the start, righty for starters ive never been able to run this CPU at even its default speed of 1.555 Ghz only running at 1.255 i think other wise programs in windows lock up or when you turn the computer on cup temp is 0 degrees and doesnt load windows.

ive just bought a new fan bear in mind these fans Are monsters and loud lol my ols one should have easily cooled the cpu down but i always got the cpu temp at 90-99 Degrees Centigrade!!!! Case temp 30. when trying to run at 1.555 ghz it just crashes bascailyl adn refuses to load im wondering why on earth is my cpu running so high ?? in temperature
and i really want to get more mhz out of this like that 1700XP chip at 2.5 ghz
was thiknig about getting a 2400Xp chip but rather try getting power out of this one and at least unning at its normaly speed first lol

if you need my system spec just ask and i'll fill it in PS guys and over clocker Guru's need advice chears
chris

Welcome to PCStats 3DGuy!
System specs would make it a whole lot easier to pinpoint a cause for all your grief. Is the 1800+ a Thoroughbred or Palomino core?
And your new fan, is it a case fan or a CPU fan (loud=Vantec Tornados?)? Have you checked the HSF to be sure it is properly seated on the CPU? What are you using between the fan and HSF? Thermal grease, Arctic Silver II, etc?

I strongly recommend you get some arctic silver 2 or arctic ceramique (better) and try reseating the HSF with that between the core and heat sink. That stock grease is garbage. 90C is way too high to run it on a regular basis, especially since AMD has designated 85C as the burn mark (too high).

well its been running at 90 degrees C since ive had it over a year and a half now i dont know why its that hot at all its got a Mother of a fan on it by Spreeze then ive just bought that new Volcano 11 to try and gett hte temp down and just is not working yea i had a fiddle and it said 1900 XP loaded then it decided after a lil while didnt like it i dont understand the ramand v core bits so all i did was cahge the dec number btw also it says on teh start up screen FSB 200 lol
or when over clocekd like 220 i hear u guys tlaking about 133 mines higher too
in teh bios says 133 though and i got multiplier options ip to 17 i think but i dont thikn they worked past 11.5 unless know hoe to unlock but what i still dont get is the CPus temperature :S that volcano heat sink is cold as anything to tougch a lil warm maybe so it is toutching the processor and as its a new heat sink its been re postiions i have no i dea i want my cpu cold lol and u guys complaing at 40 degrees lol u could over clock and be fine up to 90 LOL oz mines still running i have no idea which core version it is thoguht my system temp is 20-30 so why is my stupid processor at 90
if i over clocka lil goes to 0 degrees and doesnt run
reply plsssee
ok the heat sink is warm but its a copper fin one thres not alot to get warm because it cools so fast the fan can go up to 5500 rpm and thats loud lol

yea as its reading at 90+ most of teh time if over clock it a little the temp goes to 0 degrees in teh load up and doesnt work properly ie crashes or freezes sometimes and the cpu is toutching the heatsink still dont know why its running so high though which is mysterious because its not running say stupidly fast its not even overclocked its running at the speed it should be all i want is my temp right down low so i can get some speed out of it im going at if its fine running at this temp standard voltage increase and fsb increasing surly would be possible to screw a load of speed out of this abnormal chip
thast teh info CPU-Z brought up i think

i tried PC wizard 2003 and the temp and fan reading is way off lol ive aded silver past and iteh Volcano fan is on a temperature controler ie hotter cpu gets faster it runs sometimes at 5500rpm i think its staying around 80 degrees now was wondering do u think i can get the temp down alot lower or maybe it is an innacurate reading?those 2 programs contradict each other and stil no idea why its so hot

how far can these 1800 go up to? because in hte bios i got multiplyer as 11.5 default by 133 ( going up slowly at 135 now) and wodnered if im multiplying correctly my multiplyer setting goes up to 15x and teh dec to 200 thats a total of 3Ghz is that possble to get up to?

chris

Just because the motherboard will allow settings that high doesn't necessarily mean the processor can handle those speeds. I noticed CPU-Z tells me you have a Palomino core. You shouldn't expect much overclocking from a Palo. They run very hot to begin with (though I still think 80Celsius is way off base). Are you sure it isn't reading 90F? 90F = 32.22C, which is a decent temp for a non-overclocked CPU.
If you have a 1700+ T-bred and can OC it to 2.4GHz on air, you are doing pretty good. The only guys I've seen doing 3.0GHz are using a Prometeia/liquid nitrogen set-up.
Have you searched for a BIOS update yet?

I could get my 1800 palo up to 1.67GHz on my old Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra board....but that was about all I could get...

Welcome to PCStats 3DGuy!!!!

3DGuy, have you looked for a BIOS update yet? I know that temperature misreading has been a fix in BIOS updates for several different motherboards. I am willing to bet this will solve your temp issues.

the BIOS temp misreading was an nForce2 problem, never heard of one in via kt333...

<< im a litle confussed still theres that one saying its runing at 35 degrees celcious whre as the bios says 80 decrees C >>

3Dguy, what is the "one" saying 35 C

hey guys ive looked at the spec using CPU-Z and PCWizzard2003

strange results i found :S the cpu temp is readu about 35-38 when i lowered my fan from 5500rpm to 3400rpm (less noize was awfull on 5500 so im thinking if the cpu was running at 90 lowering the fan speed by half probably should have fried the chip also that pcwizzrd shows the mobo is ready the cpu fan as the chassis fan and the cpu fan as 0 another bug

so now that i changed the jumpers on the mobo switching the DEC option from 100 max to 133 its now running nicely at 1.55 ghz it appreas i bought a new heat sink fan for no reason but one thing it has allowed me to do is use the speed controller to slow the fan speed down rather than having the other on 5000 rpm all the time now i cna choose the speed and keep it quiet on 3400 on my new Volcano 11 tis a good heatsink.

am tempted to overclock but cant be bothered as its sucha sweet machine and its used for games now i got my 128 card, as a 3D Fx workstation, CG platform and also video editing among other thigns im just going to leave it as it is hehe ive got 1 ram slot spare and im tempted to add another 512 megs of DDR but thats about it and maybe take out teh separate firewire cand i dont use and put a tv tuner card in for uni

what you guys think about the Pinnacle TV card? any comments on that one?

thanx agian yall and i thikn ill just leave the temp and fan miss readings as they are now i know thats what they are
