View Full Version : I need 10K in 3DMark2001 SE
If you get Kingston PC2700 ValueRAM you should be able to run that FSB at 2-2-2-5 timings. My stick is doing 175Mhz with those tight timings, and this RAM is very cheap, Its very good stuff

I have posted a similar thread under video card I think. But now I am really reaching for any advise. I JUST WANT TO GET 10000 MARKS! My best so far is 9850, the link is in my sig.

Here's my system and OC specs:

AthlonXP 2000 T-BredB AIUHB DUT3C @ 12.5x166=2088 (stock 12.5x133=1667)
Sapphire Radeon 8500LE @ 310/275 (stock 250/250)
MSI KT3 Ultra2 - VIA KT333 chpsit, multipier unlocked
1 GB Micron PC2700 timings 2-3-3-6 (best I could boot with)

I have tried messing around with the multiplier but if I go even 1 MHz higher than 166 FSB I get three beeps on start up routine so I guess the RAM is pretty much topped out. I have tried increaseing the DDR voltage to 2.8 (highest bios allows) but it doesn't fix anything. I run the voltage at 2.7 @ 166MHz just fine.

And this mod for the Radeon 8500, does it work on the Sapphire cards as well? I am leary to try it but I have a 9800 on order so if I fry the 8500 it's not the end of the world. But I am builind a PC as an entertainment unit and the 8500 would be ideal for playing DVDs and TV etc.

I am using Rage3D tweak to OC the video card and I use the 3DMark profile set in that program when running benchmarks... I've tried many of the profiles and it does in fact yeild the highest score. Any D3D suggestions?

The only thing I haven't done yet is a clean formatted Windows install... will this really get the extra 150 points I need?

Thanks for your help!

A clean install is probably your best bet at this point in time. If you had a copy of Win2000Pro, you'll score higher using that on an AMD system, especially if you go into administrative services and disable as many services as possible (I'm still not sure which ones would make the system unstable-I still think I just got lucky when I did that and tweaked 18738 on my system).
What mod are you talking about with the 8500? Do you have a link you can post?
therealwesty 10k should be very easy for your system. I hit 10k with a much slower computer!

What OS are you running? Those beeps how do they sound? Are they one long beep then two short ones? Usually three beeps indicates some sort of video problem... Try running your system a few MHz above 166.

The pencil voltage mod should work just fine on your videocard as long as Sapphire follows the reference design. As rithemking suggested for some reason Win2k is the fastest AMD OS... You should get your 150 points easily by switching but I know it can be a pain the ass.

Read my 3DMark2001SE Tweak guide, that particular article is for P4/9700 Pro but the general rules still apply.

I just can't get there under Windows XP. I just did a clean install and tried all the stuff in Colin's tweak guide and I haven't even been able to get to 9850 again. I'll have to try 2000Pro. I think it'll be a dual boot kinda job though. I can't seem to get the FSB above 166... and even at 166 it gives me the three BIOS beeps occasioanlly. Three longer steady beeps... all three the same. The mobo book say it is a 64k base memory error and I have been told it is an indication the RAM is too high.

Anyway thanks for the help... that's the progress... any more would be appreciated.

Have you tried overclocking with just 1 stick of RAM? You may be stressing the memory controller on the motherboard.
The VIA chipset really isn't comparable as an overclocker to NForce2.
therealwesty you say your memory is Micron? Is it an authentic Micron DIMM (it will have a Micron sticker) or is it just using Micron DRAM?

What voltages are you feeding your processor/memory?

Colin, or really anyone!

I was mistaken... It's Infineon RAM. I think I had 2x256MB Micron.. but when I upgraded to 1 gig I got the 2x512MB of Infineon.
Is the Infineon any good for overclocking? Should I look for something better?

My DDR voltage is 2.7v. I had to up to 2.7 to get 166FSB to run stable at 2-3-3-6 timings. Going to 2.8v (mobo max) doesn't help out the situation at all. My CPU is still running at 1.6 volts. I haven't increased the CPU voltage because I think it's the memory holding me back.

Do you think I should go higher in either the CPU or DDR voltage?

Thanks again for the help!

Ugh I am still not having any progress...

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble. Overclocking can be a very frustrating thing... Don't give up!

Cool I've actually got some Infineon PC3200 on order. With the nForce2 Ultra chipset I'll be able to get to FSB 200 with the RAM... it'll only be the CPU maxing out when I get all my new gear!
