View Full Version : Overclock 1700 JIUHB on MSI K7N2G-L
I just bought a 1700 TB JIUHB stepping with a MSI K7N2G-L board and DDR 2100. I was messing in the bios and I do not see anyway to adjust the multiplier. Do you know if there is an unlocked bios for this board or do I just deal with the memory?

Do you have the latest BIOS revision for that board?
I believe I have bios 6570v35 or version 3.5. You can modify the FSB but no multiplier.
Juan in the frequency control section you have the multiplier control.

See the CPU Ratio option? THa'ts it my friend...
Is that like the 1:1 2:3 3:4 4:5 5:6 6:5 and so on or does it actually let me put 11 or 12.5 for the multiplier?
Juan the ratio thingy is for memory. You always want to set your memory to run 1:1 or in sync with the FSB as it gives best performance that way.

Damn perhaps it's not the CPU ratio thingy then. I don't have the MSI board setup at the moment but later in the day I'll hook it up to find out.

Sorry.
It's no problem at all and thinks for helping me with this!

Okay Juan. According to your manual (pdf) under the SoftMenu III where it lists CPU Operating Speed you should be able to select User Define which should unlock both the FSB and the multiplier for you (between x5 and x18).
I hope this helps.
Juan I ddin't get time today but I'll definitely check it out tomorrow.

rithemking nice try but he's talking about the MSI K7N2G-L. Don't worry even the best slip up now and then.
Colin..you where right about the CPU ratio. It had the multipliers in there so I raised it 1st to 11.5. Booted fine so I tried 12. Booted fine that time too but when I tried 12.5 it would give a bunch of bios post beeps and nothing so I reset CMOS. Tried again but raised the vCore to 1.65 and then it gave post beeps like my Abit does when it is too hot or there is an over voltage. Could it be that since he is using the onboard video that it will not let it over 12 or do I need too mess with some other crap on this board.

LMAO! I just used his sig and didn't even reread the first line. Gawd I am an idiot! LMAO!
Juan, when you were raising the multipliers did you lower the FSB to like 100 first just to see where your CPU maxed out on the multiplier? Also, that T-bred can handle 1.85v no problem.
I didn't lower the speed but after I moved the multiplier to 12 I did try and raise the FSB to 138(intervals of 5 from 133) but no go. Again I have heard of the onboard VGA limiting the overclocking factor so could that be way I am having problems with it. The system at 12 x 133 runs at 32-35C so I don't see any overheating issues unless since there is no active cooling on the northbridge could it be that the northbridge is getting too hot? Well since I haven't really messed with the FSB I do not see why the Northbridge would get hot so I am just confused why I cannot get past 12x or raise the FSB!!!
Juan honestly I'm not sure what the problem would be.

I know that when I was testing the MSI K7N2 earlier I had problems manipulating the multiplier as well even though the chip was unlocked.

Sorry dude I'm really at a lost at why you can't overclock. Let me trya nd I'll get back to you.
I figured it out. You have to disable FSB Spectrum and then I could get the processor to the Max Multiplier which was 13 and FSB up to 150 but I think the AMD retail H/S was causing the unstablity and when I had the FSB at 133 if I pushed the Mult to 13x under properties in My computer it would say AMD Athlon XP(tm) and 668Mhz. Pushed it down to 12.5 and it would show up as a 2000+. I explained to the guy 1: He needs to get a video card and stop using the IGP crap and 2: Get a CPU H/s and a N/B Active Heat sink to help with the cooling in this system. But last night he was playing Raven Shield and C&C: Generals with no problems except the ones due to the IGP. Thanks for helping out guys..much appreciated!

What is FSB Spectrum anyways?
NO IDEA but all I know is that it has to be disabled to OC!
