how do you do this? i know that i have an update for my mobo(epox 8rda+) for increased memory stablility. now it say to make sure that i have awdflash.exe v8.22a to do this update. now i have never done a bios flash before but every piece of info i have ever gotten from you guys has held my hand to a 900mhz overclock and other things. thanks for all the fun but now i need to venture into more uncharted territory. any help with this would be appreciated.

You put awdflash.exe on a floppy disk, along with the version of BIOS you want to upgrade to. Leave the floppy disk in and reboot. awdflash.exe is a bootable program and will start up (as long as your floppy is first in the boot order). Then you just follow the onscreen instructions. Things to note:

1.) The Motherboard Manufacturer should have detailed instructions on the website.
2.) If the power goes out in the middle of this process, your Mobo is toast.
3.) awdflash.exe is built right into the Epox 8RDA+. It should be one of your boot options. In that case, you would only need the new BIOS update on the floppy....but if you already have awdflash.exe on there, it won't hurt anything.

I haven't flashed any BIOS in the past 6 months so I may be a little rusty....if your relying on this threat to help you though, make sure you wait for at least one more person to give advice as well ....and don't forget to check the Mobo website for instructions as well.

Hey omga,

This is completely on the side, but I was reading your sig and I noticed that you have exactly the same cpu as I do. In fact, you are running yours at 2.3 GHz (11.5 x 200) and I'm running mine at 2.2 GHz (11 x 200). I compared your PCMark scores with mine, and you understandably have a higher cpu score than I do. But your memory score is lower than mine (4914 compared to 5234) and the only reason I could think for that is your higher ram timings. See if you can lower your timings to 6-3-3-2.0. In my experience, lowering the CAS Latency really makes a difference. I might even suggest that you take out the 256MB stick of PC2700 ram and just go with your Corsair XMS. You should be able to downclock it to 5-2-2-2.0. You may even be able to raise the FSB beyond 200 MHz for an even greater performance boost.

i'll give it a shot ginsu and thanks for the little suggestion. let you know how it all turns out after.

Memory timings are a big part of how much memory bandwith you have....expecially in PCMark.

My Current Setup:

Athlon XP 1700 (210x11=2.310Ghz)
Kingston Hyper-X PC3200 (210Mhz CAS2 2-2-6)

PCMark Benchmark:

CPU: 7063
Mem: 6024

i have the same processor, and my nf7-s rev 2.0 is sitting in its box, just saving up to get me some xms or hyper x, not sure which one to get, i cant wait to overclock this mo fo.

well with the one stick of the pc3200xms i can get the 6-3-3-2 timings but no better. i think that when i am able to get another stick of the same that i can take advantage of the dual channel stuff and maybe get better timings and break the 200mhz barrier.

oh what do the FSB SPREAD SPECTRUM and AGP SPREAD SPECTRUM about for selections in the bios?

I was wondering the same thing!

omga, I have the exact same PC3200, and mine will run 400fsb at 2-5-2-2 timings without a hitch. What voltage are you giving it? In fact, mine would run 412fsb at the same aggressive timings.
