hey, i jus got a abit kd7 mobo to replace my giga-byte 7dx+. the gigabyte board started having rpobs with the agp slot so i got this one. anywho, i tranferred evrything from the gb board to my abit. but now the cpu is over heating, the temp moniter in the bios gets to about 95c/195f (round there) before it shuts down. the multiplier settings r on 12x by default. i put it down to 5x, 6.5x, 10x...but then the pc wont boot at all. iv tried raising/ lowering core voltages but that did the same. also, after the bios is done loading and the windows 2000 loading screen comes up ill get a blue screen saying invalid boot up drive (or somethin like that). i tried booting to safe mode but then it will freeze. i dunno wut the prob is, but i think i shoulda stuck with giga-byte for a mobo.

system specs:

amd athlon xp 2000+
abit kd7
kensington ddr pc2100 256x2
ibm desktar 7200rpm 80gig hd
nvidia geforce 2 mx
windows 2000

thanx for any help
Did you put the HS back on right? If so disable all thermal warnings inside the BIOS. They board may be misreading what the actual temps are. With a different board, you will need to reinstall windows (most likely). Did you do that?

i have all the temp warnings off and auto shut off disabled as well. i talked to a guy from the place i got it from and he said to bring it in to do a free diagnostcs on it. so ima do that, also...bout the windows...it would suck if i have to as i have alot of stuff i want to keep (pr0n) and i do not have my windows cd on me at the moment. though i do have win98 somewhere...

You got a CD-RW....start burning the PoRn now. As you can see in my specs....I have a separate harddrive designated so I don't run into the same problem you have

haha, luckily, i partitioned my hd s i didnt lose my good stuff. also, i found that it will run at 1.2ghz instead of 1.6. while this sux, it still runs. i got a new cpu fan too, cooler master x dreamer. it has a adjustable speed knob that takes a pci slot. im gonna make a custom face plate for it tommorow so i can put it on the front. now my cpu temps r at 40c/125f instead of 60c with my old thermaltake volcano 5. but, i still have one prob. when the bios is loading, it will say "cpu is unworkable or has been changed. go to softmenu." what the hell...i didnt change any of my cpu settings. damn abit....this is the last board im buying from them. from now on its giga-byte or epox.

Abit makes, and has always made awsome boards. There is definetly something wrong with this one though. I don't really believe your CPU is running that hot. Epox also makes good boards, but stay away from Gigabyte.

I will readily admit there was a problem with some voltage regulation on my first Abit, but the replacement has been almost flawless. I have been able to run my 1700+ at 2.505GHz for a period of time, and stable enough to run PCMark accurately. You can always RMA it, it's just a small PitA waiting for the replacement. Gigabyte does not make very overclockable boards, though they have a ton of features.
Have you tried updating the BIOS yet?

the bios are up-to-date. and i have to re-rma my video card. pny sent me a faulty card so i have to send it back. my first board was a giga-byte. they make decent boards. it only runs hot when i try to make it run at the speed its supposed to. i can turn the muliplier down...it sucks.

jus to let u ppl know, the board works fine now. for some reason, when i went into to the bios to check te cpu temp....it started detecting my cpu at its true speed so now everything works fine...and i didnt change any bios settings...though the multiplier is still at 12x. and it runs really cool....i would like to oc it, but as of now i cant play any games online cuz all i got right now is crappy dial-up. and i dont think i can anyway since my multiplier is maxed out anyway. anywho, thanx for all ur help.

hey shiz, which HDD is your master, the one on the sata or ide?

What do you mean? On the IDE channel the WD 120GB HD is the master, and the Maxtor 40GB is the slave. SATA doesn't have a Slave/Master system as you can only have 1HD per SATA channel. In terms of my system, the SATA system is the boot drive, and WinXP is installed on the SATA drive.
