Right Right. Metalica sucks. And Justice For All was the last album that almost cut it. James sounds more like an opera singer than a metal vocalist. That old stuff was great.

I agree that St. Anger is not their best work, but it's still a good album. What do you mean James sounds like an opera singer? He is still the best lead singer out there. I hate all the newer bands out now who can only scream into the mic to make their music, at least James displays talent. I believe that MetallicA's next album will kick everyone's asses b/c they have a renewed energy with Rob in the band now. During the making of St. Anger, they were going through some tough sh*t, what with James in rehab, no bassist, and Bob Rock pushing them to write songs. I went to Summer Sanitarium this summer and believe me, they are back.

Then again maybe he does, now what their new music is total crap. St. Anger is total NU METAL, its garbage. Bob Rock is the reason tallica suck now, he fvcuked everything up, Justice was pretty much the last best album they made, though i didnt like them turning down the bass in the recording of it. And yes i did go to the sanitarium tour last summer and it was good only because they played most of their old stuff, the 2 new songs gave me time to rest from headbanging to the old stuff.

I couldn't have asked for a better post... Megadeth is indeed amazing. I have always been really intrigued by the though of Dave still being in Metallica. I wonder how different their music would sound. Or... what is Kirk and Dave were in the band.... and Cliff had never passed away... :: drools ::

Well... I'll do a short list of what I have been listening to...

Liquid Tension Experiment
Dream Theater
Children of Bodom
Avenged Sevenfold
Slayer
Pantera
Tool
In Flames
Killswitch Engage

Devils00Champs

Bodom are cool, Dream Theater is just too damn progressive for me. Old In Flames is good, Slayer too.

flippy2k
07-27-04, 05:37 PM
Dream Theater's singer f'ing blows... but Mike Portnoy is, in my opinion, the second best drummer in the world.... right behind Danny Carey. Also, John Petrucci is definately one of the best guitarists.

Devils00Champs
07-27-04, 08:48 PM
They have good musicians, Portnoy is one of the best. Id also have to put Slayers Dave Lombardo on that list, hes amazing too

flippy2k
07-27-04, 11:12 PM
Yea, Dave Lombardo is a very excellent Metal drummer.... I haven't heard his other band Phantomas (sorry for the spelling). The only reason I wouldn't put him very far up is because he isn't very versatile. I mean... he only plays one style. Then again, I hear in his other band it is quite a different story.... ok.. now I am just babbling, heh.

Lombardo has speed in his drumming. If you want to hear a crazy drummer download some stuff from this band Exit To Eternity (http://www.exittoeternity.com) buds of mine :D

surfryde has it down....st anger is not the best, but check the other bands....they scream and scream and have no meaningful lyrics....and are lyrics not teh point of music itself....and Some Kind of Monster is the best song they have made in a long tym....its their past present and future....they kick people around...then get kicked in the balls....but they will always make a comeback....METALLICA TILL DEATH....listen to the right stuff u n00b

Meaningful lyrics? Dont make me laugh

DoK
10-19-04, 03:07 PM
Uh, yes, they do have meaningful lyrics. Hetfield/Ulrich take their song writing seriously and there's a story behind each of their songs. Almost all of St. Anger was based on Hetfield's rehab experiences.

So much hostility toward Metallica because of your Megadeth fanaticism. . .

Haven't read any of threat except for last 2 posts, btw.

oh you got me all wrong, im a HUGE Metallica fan, but i do despise their latest record. Its not music its just noise. Metallica is what got me into listening to metal, their early work is genious albums from Kill Em All to Justice, with Ride the best album from my opinion. Compared to Megadeth's new record Metallica's St Anger lyrics are meaningless, and music is horrible.

DoK
10-19-04, 05:28 PM
I agree that their instrumentation has taken a turn for the worse compared to their earlier stuff ( I miss the 10 minute instrumental balads and Hammet's Satriani-esque guitar solos), but I find a lot of meaning in St. Anger's lyrics.

Assimilator87
10-19-04, 08:38 PM
Hetfield's therapists musta fecked with his brain or something. I don't see why Met didn't include solos in St. Anger. If anyone's seen the DVD that comes with it, you'll see how bored Kirk looks. What a shame. At least "The System has Failed" isn't a failure.

wtf were they thinking....maybe theyll suddenly go abck to old skool thrash....but that'd be a miracle

DoK
10-19-04, 09:52 PM
I remember that's what they promised for St. Anger, and the song St. Anger itself starts out as what seems to be an attempt at thrash, but then goes back to something more akin to Load or Reload. . .

thank you DoK.....that helps.....i was simply implying that they gave it a shot and it wasnt what people wanted, however there were plenty of albums sold....so they didnt do too terriby.....i too agree however they started with moderate beginnings of thrash and reverted to slight opera noise  ...i think they will try harder next album....if there is such....maybe hetfield will be up for better stuff...

A lot of albums sold because people were expecting it to be good. When they got home and listened to it, they were sorely disappointed. It's like a movie that looks really good in the commercials, but in reality sucks a lot so people see it once, but never again.
