How is the ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard and its VIA KT400/8235 chipset? Also how does the chipset compare to the Nforce 2 chipset?

the nForce 2 is by far a much better chipset. It performs significantly better, and also allows for overclocking, where as the KT400 doesn't overclock for nothing.

What Shiznit said. If you really want a KT400 motherboard, I have a SOYO KT400 Dragon Ultra Platinum for sale in the PCStats Market. It's a very stable board, but doesn't allow me to do what I want it to (overclock my 2800+ Barton).

I will also suggest that you stay away from the A7N8X-X because although it is a nForce2 chipset it does not support dual channel DDR...I know what you are thinking...nForce2 not support Dual DDR??? I did some research on Asus's website and the specs for this board have NOTHING regarding dual channel DDR as the A7N8X and the A7N8X Delux both do have Dual channel DDR support.

I'd get the A7N8X over the A7N8X-X anyday... wait... I DID! Yeah... I was looking pretty hard at the -X model until I realized it doesn't have dual channel support. The A7N8X has two 64-bit memory controllers, so if you have RAM in slot 1&3 or 2&3 each sticks uses its own controller. The -X model however onlu has one controller shared among the three DDR slots.

The -X seems very affordable at first... but I really wanted and so would recommend the dual channel capabilities.

If you have the extra cash I would go with the Deluxe model, it has lots of features that could come in very handy like dual LAN, firewire, 6 USB 2.0 ports...

hey rithemking i'm curious to know if the pin-mod I used will work with your Soyo board, I know you might not like it but its not going to void your warranty so its worth a shot
Canadian Guy...the Soyo board does have the options in the BIOS for changing the vcore and multiplier...the problem that rithemking and I both had with Soyo boards is that there is not much headroom for increase without stability problems...which is usually directly related to the VIA KT chpiset. I could overclock my KT333 a little but it was no where near the overclocker that my nForce2 board is.

I was never able to get my KT333 above 333Mhz (166FSB)! It may have been the RAM, I was using PC2700 but I ran occassionally at 12.5x166=2088MHz I would have problem trying to boot my machine. With any sort of OC at all it would give the three BIOS beeps at start-up and wouldn't post. I too have nForce2 now.. and yeah it rocks! 12.5x180=2255 or 11x200=2200 an my AthlonXP 2000+.
