i was just formatting my NEW harddrive in my NEW comp, and when it was beginning to install windows xp, it suddenly went to a blue screen talkin about memory dump and needing to run safe mode and/or updating the bios. i was always told that updating the bios will fix that, but i'm am not sure. could u guys tell me wut do do? also, if i have to update the bios, can u guys tell me how to? thanks a lot

Go to the mobo website and it will have instructions on how to do it. Usually it will involve bunging the new bios file onto a floppy and then booting the computer from the floppy and flashing it like that

You'll probably need a Windows boot drive to boot into MS-DOS mode first. Then you insert the floppy disk with your new BIOS on it and run the flashing program. The flashing process itself is pretty straightforward; just follow the directions on screen.

well if you are in windows and you get this error whilst installing ur stuff, its more than likely a driver issue.

if it happens again, note down the file name (more than likely a .sys file, but not certain) and the 0x strings. the most important one is the one outside of the ( brackets ). ONce you have that info, you can visit here and find the related article. if the menu on the left fails to sync to the page, the location of the bug check articles is windows development > driver development kit > interpreting bug check > bug check codes

well, if it is a driver problem, how can i possibly install it when hte comp doesnt even have an OS yet. the harddrive is not even formatted. when i get to the beginning of the installation, i then get the blue screen and it tells me to run off safe mode or wutever. so wut u are saying is for me to find the name of the problem and then find it on the site u sent me and it should tell me how to solve it? cuz i really dont know how to solve anything, expecially when the os is not even installed.

if the bsod has a reference number or anything like that you can input that into the micro$oft knowledgebase and it should come up with some solutions about that
