View Full Version : Mandrake 9.2
I have found what you need shiznit. You are getting way to frustrated with a full linux OS distro install so you need something else so you can get familiar with using linux.

Phlak is a downloaded iso that is bootable. Once booted it will load a linux OS for you to learn and get used to linux. Without having all of the issues that you are having and have had in the past.

http://www.phlak.org

by the way, that is what I call a pioneer .... I am exploring and finding things, you are just sitting in your leather chair

I just installed a copy of Mandrake 9.2 on my Server.

System specs:

Athlon XP 2100 @ 2.4Ghz
512MB Geil PC3200
Epox 8RADA+
40GB Maxtor 7200 rpm HD (10GB Partition for Linux)
Palit GeForce 2 MX-400 64MB

Anyone familiar with the Linux OS. It is totally new to me. I am not very familiar with installing software....particularly drivers. Any help on how to install the nForce 2 system drivers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm unfamiliar with linux as well. What are the benefits?
you'll first have to download the linux driver for your graphics card and then you can edit the *.c files and then compile and run them to actually install the drivers...it can become quite compl;icated so i suggest you get a guide to help you through it

Another question....my system was booting to the Linux Desktop perfectly fine. Now when the system starts, it goes to the Linux Command Prompt.....how do I get to the desktop?

(Frustrated!)

<< (Frustrated!) >>

Lazy! And you are supposed to be a pioneer. Ha!

Read the manuals online, they will help. You have all the urls, and didn't maximumPC recommend Mandrake, maybe they can help

Redhat for life
once you have logged into the command prompt write in the command 'startx' without the quotes and that will start the x window system (aka desktop)
Iceman,

Are you running Linux? If so, what distro? Just curious....

I open Harddrake (Device Manager)

Ethernet Card -
nForce 2 MCP Networking Adaptor

That is correct.

Try to connect to the LAN/Internet: No Networking Adaptor Found.

Conclusion: Linux is just as big of a peice of $hit as Windows, only they make it much harder.

<< Conclusion: Linux is just as big of a peice of $hit as Windows, only they make it much harder. >>

Nah, you are just too lazy and don't to spend any time learning anything. Linux is very useful, but you have to spend time learning and playing around with it, something that you won't ever do. Instead watching your porn all day, try reading some online manuals

<< Are you running Linux? If so, what distro? Just curious.... >>

yeah on my second hdd although i don;t use it much cos it involves yanking out the hard drive and putting another one in as i only have the one rig at uni

Uh oh....not Redhat

<< try reading some online manuals >>

What kinda crap are you smoking. My life is far too busy to be sitting around reading manuals. The point of linux experiementations is just to take a look at the "other side." WinXP is still the way to go. From a gaming stand point, Linux is useless.

I have Redhat installed on a POS harddrive in my system, but I hardly ever use it. I've tried fussing around with it, but never got the motivation to get really into it. I have an Uncle who uses NOTHING but Linux on his computer, but then he is a programmer and really knows what he's doing.
