I agree with danny here. It sounds susiciously like the PSU is giving out.
when trying to install either xp or 2kpro it gets past loading the drives and all but when it gets to the starting windows segment it just stays there. any ideas to solve this problem. the hDD is new. here are the system specs.

epox 8rda+
amd xp2200+
1gig mem
WD 160gig hDD
nvidia geforce 4
somebody please help! i'm going crazy and don't know what the cause is.

try making just a small partition for the OS and stuff(like 20 gigs).....and then format the rest later if you get everything working..........im not sure this will work but its worth a shot

also........you could try and strip your comp down to only the essestials neeeded to boot then add teh other stuff later
thanks. got it to work. don't know how but i did. it was working fine but now the system just shuts down after it passes the POST. any ideas? the power led stays lit but the system is off. is it going into hybernation or something? i've never had my computer sleep or hybernate so i don't know. thanks for the reply danny16866.

did you add any new hardware other than the HDD?............and what is your PSU rated at?
psu is a 350watt generic and i did add the sound card and plugged in the dvd player. but i removed whatever i had added to see if it would go back to normal but same deal. thanks again danny16866
hmm.........i still suspect the PSU may be the culprit.......how big/fast was the old HDD?........modern HDD's suck alot of power

.............also..........try reseting the BIOS and see if that clearr up anything
tried clearing the bios and still no dice. it get's to the welcome screen then bye bye. i'll get me another PSU and see what happens. thanks for all the help danny16866
