I reformat very often, and there is always something else that won't work correctly, each time I reinstall. Right now, no matter what I do, MSN Messenger always starts when I open Outlook Express. Pisses me off. Yes, I disabled it from opening in the Outlook options. It isn't even the defualt IM client.

I've messed around with it, and even tried unintsalling it, but to no avail. I'd delete the entire Messenger file, but when I've done that in the past Windows starts freaking out.
I use and enjoy Trillian thoroughly and would rather that POS MSN would just stop. LOL!
Xenozx, Check your control panel Users and Passwords (I'm looking at 2000Pro right now, but it should be similar for the other OSes) and select properties for your user name. It's possible this is set to restricted.
ok heres my answer i found the problem. I installed a tweak xp 3.02 program but messed up the activation process. because of this it password protected the program itself and locked my task manager. I had to go into my registry and delete the keys from it and every thing is fine now.

one more question tho. how do you get rid of these stupid messages from ip addresses?

dude i have that problem too, uggh i hate windows messenger
Stop the Windows messenger service. go to 'computer managementservices and applicationsservices' then disable the 'messenger' service. It's useless anyhow.
