even when i add the string myself(it isnt there)... i hold cntrl alt shift and hit del and nothing happens (after i save and reboot of course). Im using XP Pro with all updates. my rig is as follows

AMD AthlonXP 3200 @2430mHz
Abit NF7-S 2.0
2x256 Geil Golden Dragon 433
Radeon 9700 Pro with Giant II heatsink
Maxtor 80 gig D740X
WD 30 gig Cavair
2x36 gig raptors
Antec True 430

My rig is 100% stable... just this registry value seems not to work :/

heres what he posted in teh new newsletter

For those of you who are extremely impatient there's a way of restarting Windows without having to restart the actual PC... I know this has saved me a bit of time when trying out new registry tweaks and such.

First load up regedit (Start -> Run then type regedit and click the ok button). From there follow this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows NT -> CurrentVersion -> Winlogon. From there add/modify the EnableQuickReboot string value and change it to 1. Save exit and reboot your PC normally.
After that's done every time you want to reboot simply press Shift + Ctrl + Alt + Del and Windows will do a quick restart without rebooting.

I haven't got it to work either yet. Ensure you've shutdown and restarted before trying the tip, but from what I've read elsewhere this is an NT/2000 tip.

Doesn't work for me either...

You accomplish the same thing by using task manager to end the 'EXPLORER' process, this will shut down the task bar and stuff. Then launch a new task, type EXPLORER and away you go. This will re-init the registry without having to fully reboot the system.

Then, surely couldn't we make a little program - might have to use VB, C or something - and then link to it via a keyboard hotkey. One press and Win reboots.

No, that woudln't work would it... would a program be able to run after you've closed explorer? Is that the shell/kernel/what?
