View Full Version : avi to vcd
i wanted to burn an avi movie which has the ac3 audio format into a vcd? how do i go about doing that ? normal burning softwares or do i have to convert it to some other format first?
i just downloaded WinMPG and am running a conversion. i'll let you know how it turns out. it's free by the way. you should be able to burn the avi file right to vcd but players seem to prefer mpeg in my personal experience. and you can use NERO or Rocio easy cd/dvd creator to burn the vcd. i have both and my versions cost me about 70 each.

you can use TMPEGEnc to convert the file to MPEG (you'll want to load the VCD(NTSC) template before clicking start, you do this by clicking on LOAD in the lower right corner of the app)), choose your AVI as the audio and video source, and choose an MPEG, and then use the VCD option in the CD burning options of Nero Burning Rom (or Roxio Easy CD Creator).

This works 100% of the time, we had to do this for a video my friend was making for a company in the US, since they didn't want us to send a VHS or DVD of the demo, we had to make a VCD.
anyone know how to burn avi to dvd? i know how to convert to mpeg using tmpgenc but nero asks for a .vob or .ifo or somtin when i try to burn it to a dvd? what the crap
hmm will the size of the file increase if i burn the avi file into a vcd?

i believe the size will increase depending on what quality settings you want it at
one thing i'm not too sure about, a friend of mine has a 4000W stereo system , but it says that it only plays vcd on it. So if i burn the video in a CD-RW , and finish the cd, will the stereo system be able to play it ? ( the guy doesn't know whether it plays cd-rw or not )
completely unrealated to your thread but your avatar is well cool...funky little green dancing man!!

If you want help making a DVDR image of an AVI (please don't do this for illegal stuff >_<), use:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com

They will help you with anything you have to do with convertting/burning and stuff.

Don't forget too that on a VCD you can only fit 74 minutes of data onto a 650MB CD, it's just like burning an audio CD...so anyways that's my input, I have to go back to work now...
hmm neat software thx dude no illegal stuff btw just some home videos

No problem bud Don't forget, there's a fine line between legal and illegal nowadays We're, in theory allowed to have 1 backup copy of anything we legally own an original medium for (DVDs are a little sketchy on this frontier, but I believe it's been fought for an WON on things like Playstation games, music CDs, audio cassettes, and VHS tapes).

But anyways, yeah TMPEGEnc is a phenominal program. My friend and I are doing a little cartoon series in 3D Studio MAX and for some reason we couldn't join the files in VirtualDub, it kept giving us Audio Sample Rate errors (which is weird because we did the export in 3ds max at the same rate every time, but anyway), so we used TMPEGEnc to convert them to VCD MPGs, and then back to AVI to work with in VirtualDub So those 2 programs are wicked!

3D Studio Max is expensive but WELL worth the price! Same as data recovery software like:
Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery

But, I have to get to work now, have fun with your home movies! (not too much fun though LOL)
