What's the resolution on your scanner. Set it to the highest setting possible. You might be able to tweak the image using Photoshop to make it cleaner at the size you want.

does anyone know of any good image editing software that will allow me to blow up a pic without it distorting it and getting all pixely on me? I'm looking for some kind of redigitizing stuff or something along the lines so as i can take a pic and print it as an 8X10 and have it looking all nice and posterlike. Any help would be great.

For image editing, I don't think there is a better program out there than Photoshop. As for your images getting pixely, it all depend on the original image's resolution. Are you using a digital camera to capture the pics? What Megapixel rating is the camera? 8x10 is a pretty large print. If your original image doesn't have enough resolution, nothing will help make it look sharp at larger sizes. You will probably need something around the 5 Megapixel range.

I don't have a digital camera. I've just scanned them to my harddrive. I don't suppose adjusting the resolution will make enough of a difference. I'm really dense when it comes to altering images and such.

if you are looking at enlarging photos by quite a scale i would look into fractal resizing programs as these have been specially developed to provided minimum loss of quality when enlarging pictures

Cool! What does it do exactly and where can we check it out?

I can't remember exactly where i found it...i'm thinking on freedownloads.com. I haven't had that much time to mess with it yet. It's got tons more options than any of the others i've tried. The entire program is based on resizing and adjusting resolution and such. I'm impressed thus far.
