to format the drive completely, get yourself the 98se bootdisk from bootdisk.com and put it on a floppy. The when booting up the system it should go into a command prompt (have to set your floppy drive as the first boot device) and type in "format c:" (or whatever your drive letter is that you are formatting). Then to install the os again, all you need to do is set the Cdrom drive as the first boot device, put the cd in the drive and restart and let it start the installation, i hope this makes sence

Welcome to PCStats celt!

Another option is that you can format the drive as part of the Windows setup process. Just boot off the CD and the option to format will be within the first few steps. This method will only let you format the drive as NTFS for partitions over 20GB (i think). If you want Fat32 file system Devil's way is the way to go.
thanks guys/girls.....will try it and let you know what damage i have done....lol
Just wanted to update you on what happened.

I found my old win98 disk and loaded it...............it allowed me to format my c drive, and freshly reload windows xp pro.

needless to say I lost all my information, but that was not a real issue for me...........the computer is running very slow right now and I am reading more info from these forums to learn how to tweak the system and correct this issue.

Thank again for you help........................
