It's just came up recently. I havn't downloaded anything for about 3 weeks and suddenly my Windows Media wont open up. Once I click on it, the loading cursor comes up and then nothing.
I opened up the Task Manager (I have Windows XP) and the bdl94216.exe would come up, and soon disappear. I traced it and found it in C:/WINDOWS
I've tried deleting it (not entirely, just in the recycle bin), but a new copy if it would just be made again. I double clicked it, since it's an exe, I thought something would open. Nothing. Later as I looked around in WINDOWS, suddenly there was a et500j.exe. I didn't know what it was so I ran my free version of AVG anti-virus program and it identified the et500j.exe as a trojan (i think). Anyway, I deleted the et500j.exe manually because AVG didn't do anything about it... it just found it for me... and the file was never seen again.

Once again I try to open my Windows Media and once again nothing. So I looked in my msconfig - no such thing was checked. Then I looked in my registry, it found a prefetch or something of the sort. I double clicked it, putting it into modify mode. A bunch of files were named in it. I traced those files down and deleted them. One of them was a cookie, and two others were .tmp files starting with ~. I checked the date on those before I deleted them, they were the most recent .tmp files.

All that still didn't work. And so I got angry and deleted the prefetch thing itself... it just made another after I tried to open Windows Media again. I'm not at home or else I'd just copy and paste what it has on it.

something like a ??\WINDOWS

I'm confused here -_-, someone please help

you should have read the post under this one. When i did a search for it it my registry it the file your talking about comes up under bdl94216.exe in my google tool bar registry folder. Do you have the google tool bar/pop up stoper installed? If you do its a valid file. let me know but i think that particular file is fine. have you updated windows media player for xp to the latest version? if you havent hit windows update and do so it might correct the problem. if you already have go to windows.com and download the self installer and reinstall it incase some files got mixed/messed up. just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I read your post. I have no extra browser bars whatsoever though. I've looked through the registry, and since I'm at home, here's what the thing says:

bdl94126
PendingFileRenameOperations

the modify thing shows:

??C:WINDOWSdl94126.exe

??C:WINDOWSdl94126.exe

??C:WINDOWSdl94126.exe

??C:WINDOWSdl94126.exe

??C:WINDOWSdl94126.exe

before I deleted it the first time, some cookies were involved and the ~something.tmp files were as well.

I don't know how I can update Windows Media since I can't get into it...

try renaming the file, and then maybe restart and delete it, taht has worked for me in the past.
