A reader recently wrote in with this question, and just in case anyone else is facing the same critical problem right in the middle of exam time, I'm posting the answer right here for everyone's benefit;<BR><BR><em>"Hey there I got some troubles with my hard drive and I was wondering if there was anyway that you knew of to fix the problem or at least grab some files off of it.<BR><BR>Well what happened is that windows failed to boot so then I tried to install windows onto a second drive in order to back up the files but for some odd reason windows started to format the wrong drive and now the drive with all my files on it is not formatted at all. So this is my question, is there anyway to recover files off of a drive that was partially formatted but—isn’t formatted at all—please help me its been at least a couple weeks since I last backed up my files and this will put my school work back almost a month. Any help will be greatly appreciated."</em><BR><BR>The answer is to read <a href="http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1139">PCstats Beginners Guide to Hard Drive Data Recovery.</a> In this guide, we talk about recovering formatted and deleted data, and test out a couple of free services to see how they compare. Half a million people have read this comprehensive Beginners Guide, so people, <a href="http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1124">don't forget to backup your data too. :-)</a><BR>

First off let me just say what an awesome site. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I'm a 24 year old who works on a call center. I deal with computers everyday and have knowledge all of the basic knowledge down pat. I am trying to learn a little more about DOS and programming. But right now my problem is lost files. GREAT ARTCILE, but something is not working in my favor. When I run findntfs 1 1 1 1 c:
ecoverlog.txt I get an error saying could not locate c:
ecoverlog.txt. I even tried saving a black txt file with this name in the c drive, but that didn’t work either. Thanks for the help and keep up the great work on the site. I am sure I will be visiting here frequently.
