trouble with MP3 codec

Hmm, recently, I've started having trouble with my MPEG Layer-3 codec. The problem I'm having is that a program I use, Acid Pro 3, can convert songs into different formats, and one of them used to be mp3 format, but now that's gone. Also, a game I play uses MP3's for sounds and everything, but the game runs like hell now unless I have all audio turned off. Anyone know how I can fix this problem with MP3s?

try getting a codec pack called 'k-lite codec pack' - this has loads of different codecs in it (audio and video)
