try resetting the cmos. the easiest way to do this is to pull the cmos battery off the motherboard for about a minute and then putting it back in and turning the computer back on. you can also move a jumper on the board to reset the bios. .. which jumper it is, i do not know. but it is usual right by the cmos battery. .. if you do decide to do the jumper instead of just pulling the battery. move the jumper over to the oppisite pin and then turn then hit the power button a couple times (the computer shouldnt turn back on at this point) .. after that turn the power back off on the machine and move the jumper back over. and turn the power back on. you should then have reset your bios.

hope this helps

also note that you will have to reset all the settings in the bios after you have done this.

as for the reason you can not boot from the floppy drive this could be two reasons. A: the bios is not detecting it right. or B: you have a bad floppy drive or floppy cable.
Okey, I tried all that, found the jumper, even tried booting without the battery in .
same messages still come, i guess it is dead?

usually that something is dead.

try pulling all cards, drives, and extra sticks of ram that are not needed. and see if it will then boot and go into the bios.

you could also have bad motherboard as well. but it could also be something as simple as a bad ide ribbon lol. it kind of hard to tell because older computers like this have more possible problems then modern day machines. or i should say they are more easily troublshooted.

also .. this really doesnt matter ... but there wasnt a pentium 2 166. .. pentium 2 started at 233mhz. and went to 450mhz.

If you had another PC running on the asus sp97-v mobo too then you could swap the BIOS chips, flash the BIOS on the other PC and swap them back...
