Nova
06-15-04, 02:27 PM
no, but think about it its a pickup, its supposed to be able to handle a lot of wheight and whatnot, plastic has nowhere near the strength of steel

Devils00Champs
06-15-04, 02:27 PM
Technically its not plastic, its carbon fibre with is much stronger than regular plastic while being really light

omga14
06-15-04, 02:27 PM
tensile strength of steel is 1.3 while carbon fibers(or fibre for you euros) tensile strength is 3.5. almost twice the strength. at the same tensile strength i believe carbon fiber is also something like a third of the wieght.

Nova
06-15-04, 02:27 PM
but its still plastic...

Joe
06-15-04, 02:27 PM
lol sorry to tell ya .. but you aint getting carbon fiber on a vehicle unless A: you buy after market parts or B: you have a very fat wallet lol.

plastic doesnt belong on trucks. it never has and never will. .. the definition of performance for trucks is alot different then it is for sports cars. .. so yes ... steel does perform better. its stronger and allows for more weight to be pulled.

gearing and axle strenght has more to do with towing then the actual engine .. but steel can be beat up a good bit more then plastic lol .. so yes it does make the performance of a truck overall better.

and for the carbon fiber being stronger then steel. ... thats not exactly true. .. maybe it is stronger in stretch strength but not in general weight strength .. it also chips alot easier then steel does.

its sort of like the snow shoe effect.

CompSnake
06-15-04, 02:27 PM
Spider Web is like 5x the strength of steel by weight.
And I'm with joe on this (i think this is the point you meant) There is no poin in putting plastic on the siding, it's ugly and serves no purpose. If there was like a plastic layer along the bottom I wouldn't complain cause it would be protecting the paint job, but when it cover the whole side its nasty.
