View Full Version : UBER-NOOB Question
What does post and boot mean? This pertains when you are talking about your MOBO turning on or not. Does boot mean when it simply turns on?...or does it mean when all your device drivers load along with your OS? And...wtf does post mean?...haha sorry for these noob questions
POST = Power On Self Test (this is all the text you see before windows starts to boot)

and boot doesnt stand for anything at all .. it just means to turn the computer on .. or to boot the computer up.

there is cold boot and warm boot ... cold boot means turning the computer on .. warm boot means pretty much restarting or rebooting.

That initial first beep you hear when you power the computer on is the POST pass signal. It means the BIOS is satisfied that all the required components are plugged in and seem to be working OK. If there is a problem you'll hear a series of beeps that are supposed to indicate which components aren't working or connected.

And "BIOS" is "Basic Input Output System" from some your motherboard "ROM" or "Read Only Memory". Finally "boot" comes from booting up on a horse. Get it? Don't apologize for noob questions, I needed a break from Morrowind anyway. Besides, no one here knows EVERYTHING. We're learnin' too.
