"History of cookies

Cookies for the internet were originally developed in 1995 by the Netscape Communications Corporation. The word "cookie" comes from "magic cookie," a term in programming languages for a piece of information shared between co-operating pieces of software. The choice of the word cookie appears to come from the American tradition of giving and sharing edible cookies. "

So the term cookie did derive from the US desire for sugar

Its all that high fructose corn syrup I tell ya
Thats why the low carb diet is so effective, cause it prevents people from eating over-processed carbs that cant be broken down. If you stop eating wite bread and white sugar and start eating whole grains and brown sugar and/or honey as a sweetner you will be much healthier than someone on a low carb diet
