I have Windows xp home and tried to install windows xp pro-everything begins well-but when computer restarts it asks for the windows xp pro to be inserted and to hit enter-I do that and it comes right back to same screen-does not seem to recognize cd in drive. Can anyone help-In the meantime it now gives me three options to start computer when I turn on computer Home Edition, Recovery or Xp Pro setup (which is highlighted), so if you do not watch computer startup it will go to xp pro setup-if I could just get rid of that option (have teenagers who use machine and I am sure will get confused) I would be happy and will forget about installing pro, unless you can help me get it installed. Naturally the system restore was not enabled so I cannot go back to a restore point before trying to install. Can some one please, please help.: Pbbeachgirl

most likely the problem you are having is that your BIOS, the programming that initially runs your computer is not setup to boot off of the cd-rom, where it need to to finish the installation. depending on what kind of computer you have...listing everything you know about your computer for us would help...you can get into the BIOS by pressing the delete button as you turn on your computer. you really shouldnt mess with any of these settings if you don't know what you are doing. but if you can tell me about your computer I'm sure me or someone else will be able to help you. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Thanks for your help-I figured that was it too-but after that I screwed with the boot.ini, trying to get rid of the setup option and totally messed up computer so I had to re-install the os. Fortunately I was able to backup everything first and I have decided to stay with XP home-I really only wanted the backup feature in Xp Pro anyways. Thanks again.
