View Full Version : what's your list?
what's your favorite softare for editing, or whatever? looking for something i've never tried. M$ or Linux stuff since i'm loading up a Linux box and am gonna learn that side of the world. heard GIMP is almost as good as Adobe Photoshop.
GIMP is meant to be absolutely excellent. I've never tried it though.

Winblow$ - Photoshop CS is my definite favourite. Fireworks/Freehand don't come close, but they are aimed at performing a slightly different task. My first reaction when I saw CorelDraw and the rest of the suite was "what is this ****", but the more I use it the more it grows on me. In some ways it's more flexible than photoshop, but that's because it's designed for a slightly different purpose. In most ways though Photoshop is so much more flexible. I still don't see any single Winblows program that could, for me, replace Photoshop.

TBH I like Photoshop 7 better than CS.
gimp comes with redhat 9 so i'll be playing with that for a little. gonna see if 3dsmax or maya offer a free solution for redhat. this is the experimentation box so anything goes. i'll reformat in a heartbeat and not think anything of it cause it's a learning tool.

In some ways I agree with you, but there isn't a massive difference between the two. To bo honest I can live with either just fine.

Maya... man, that is a powerful piece of software, but suffice to say it's one of the most complex I've ever set my eyes upon.
checked the free non-commercial version and it's only xp pro so i'll be playing with it on my winbox. searching to see if anyone has a linux package for it though. oh and i'm having a problem getting WINE to install to redhat 9. also i was wondering if you guys know how to install tarballs? i'm not familiar with programing so please treat me like the noob i am.
well i likes photoshop 7 (aldo i don't use it much)

* looks at nova's sig
Yeah, I can tell. :p
* looks at his own sig Nevermind...lol
TBH, fireworks is very good for everyday stuff such as signatures. the learning curve is very gentle, whereas the photoshop curve is every bending upwards.
whats wrong with my sig...
* oh nm i din't read it right, i din't actually do this sig do (way to lazy, mabe if i was in school...) i copied it, can't take any credit for it, bu ti love it especially once i figure out how to get better writing (mabe i'll toss in a vapochill x800 xt and fx-53 just to make it look more interesting :) )

Personally I hate it. It is so restrictive, and I reckon it's one of those programs that either has a lot of hidden potential that I haven't discovered yet, or is just not very useful. Photoshop can at first look a little daunting but I think it's rather easy to pick up once you've got a few things straight in your mind.
Sorry omga, I don't have any experience with that. I only installed Linux once, and it literally took me ten-fifteen minutes to boot so I gave up and went back to 98se (which took five lol)
redhat takes me like 5 but everything is real fast after that. when i get the box to where i want it i doubt i'll turn it off very often if at all. unless i need to that is.
Ah, but your copy doesn't take 2 minutes to display the Linux equivalent to the start menu does it. I can't believe how slow that laptop was. I just wish I could have had a proper look round.

i've got...quite a large list.. i probably shouldn't post it here...so i won't :D photoshop 7 is awesome, yeah, it does have a slight curve  , but i found some good basic tutorials online and i've learned my way through it pretty well. 3dsmax 4.2 is also an awesome program. that's what i used for my avatar and the newton cradle in my sig. My site (http://asdf.notmybest2day.us) > Graphics Creativity, and choose one of the two programs that have links (it's all pictures on the pages..no software)
i havn't really messed around with Studio MX much yet, but i heard it is a pretty good bundle of software. I guess i did end up listing stuff anyways.. oh well ;)
the reason for the post is to get an idea of what i should be getting for this install of redhat so post that long @$$ list and let me in the know. i could definitely use the information and anybody else who checks in might think it usefull as welll and i don't know if anyone else has but welcome notmybest2day.
