I recently purchased a Mach Speed MZ-694TAS to replace an ailing ASUS mobo in my P3
system. After installation, I noticed that many of my devices (see list below plz) were assigned to IRQ 3. Although
concerned, I didn't notice any difficulties...

Just this week I replaced my GF3 graphics card with a new HIS 9800Pro IceQ card.
Now I have problems playing Half Life Day of Defeat. The game graphics are jerky
and the audio stutters alot when things get busy. I had no such problems befor installing the HIS
9800Pro.

I've noticed that the graphics card is also assigned to IRQ 3. (I'm unsure of
which IRQ my old card was assigned to.) Is it possible to remove/re-assign some
of the load from IRQ 3 to see if it will alleviate my problem? Thus far I've had
no luck trying to do so manually.

I'm running Win XP Home w/SP1, SB Live 5.1 sound card, 768mg SDRAM. All of the
drivers are updated to the most recent versions except my mobo drivers and bios,
they are running with the drivers/bios from the install cd. (Any problems here?)

yes, i deleated the old drivers via the add/remove software in control panel,
then ran 'detonator destroyer, from guru3d.com. I have physically inspected
the registry for leftovers and deleted as many nvidia references as I could find.

no conflicts were indicated when i checked my IRQs or in device mgr, just a
butt-load of devices all on irq 3.

is it normal for that many to be on the same irq?

Thanks for your help!!!!
Bill Ritchie
glimrman@comcast.net

System Information report written at: 06/09/04 22:25:10
System Name: SPAM
[IRQs]

Resource Device Status
IRQ 3 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 3 RADEON 9800 PRO OK
IRQ 3 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 3 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller OK
IRQ 3 Creative SB Live! series OK
IRQ 3 NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK
IRQ 3 NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK
IRQ 3 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller OK
IRQ 3 Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter(LNE100TX v4) OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
Text

Well in having a look at my system I am completely puzzled. I have no devices assigned to IRQ 3 and they are all assigned to a unique IRQ. Using the XP device manager I wasn't able to find any quick way to reassign the IRQs.

Probobly the best bet is to look into the BIOS for a setting regarding the PCI-IRQ Steering or someway to set the IRQs automatically in the BIOS. Alternativly if you could find somewhere to manually specify IRQs in the BIOS it would be more work but it would solve the issue.

Your BIOS may also have the option to set your video card to a unique IRQ. Most recent mobos do.
