Good day to everyone, I'm a first time poster on this forum, but long time reader of PCStats newsletter. Today I come here with a problem. So here it goes: When I try to burn anything with an OEM version of Nero 6 that was supplied with my burner (Asus CRW-5232AS), when I have a blank CD in the drive it will not allow me to select a burning speed and it doesn't let me continue on to the burning phase. Although, when I don't have any CD in the drive it allows me to go on the the burning phase, but at that point asks me to insert a CD (of course) but it fails to detect that I have a CD in the drive. When I use the Nero Info Tool, it detects the blank CD, but for some reason, Nero won't let me burn. The strangest thing is, before I reinstalled XP, I could use the same burner and program without any problems whatsoever.

Well, turns out it's not Nero's fault, but rather my burner's. I tried using Alcohol 120% to burn an image, and it too failed to detect the disc.

Welcome to the Forums!

What version of windows are you using? Do you have read access to this particular CD drive? I can't really think of anything to try or any other questions to ask until I know the answer to those.

I'm using XP Pro (SP1 and all), I do have read access to the drive. Also, I tested the burner on a friends system, and it works perfectly, so faulty burner won't be an issue.

I know this may sound weird/stupid/unlikely since your Nero 6 software came bundled with your burner, but I had a similar problem when my copy of Nero 5 couldn't recognize the CD-RW brand/type. Make sure that your burner is of a brand and type that Nero 6 recognizes.

Try looking at the Nero website and search for a list of compatible CD-RWs that work with your version of Nero. This may also be a BIOS thingy... you may solve the problem by reflashing the BIOS on the CD-RW that will make it compatible.
