Dear PC Guru's,
I've Been trying to find a mobo that my old tbird will work with. Sadly my first comp was a Gateway and all i wanna do is use good parts to make it a server.
Can anyone that knows or can find it help me find the right mobo (yes ill even take something other than Asus). I'm guessing that it would be around $50. Any help will be appreciated.
thx.

Somone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I do believe that the Thunderbirds are compatible with any motherboard that an Athlon XP works on.
its a Gateway...most likely nothing will work with it...those motherboards are special...they use propritary connectors...so u cant use the mobo

Sphinxzors,
The concern EWeezy raises is an important one if you are thinking of using your Gateway case and power supply with a new mobo, since many pre-fab OEM PC companies (such as Gateway and Dell) use proprietary power supplies that have connectors that are wired differently than standard connectors. If you connect a standard ATX mobo to such a power supply, you are in danger of shorting something out. This is a way for them to ensure you will upgrade only through them. You may have to get a new PSU and even a new case if your Gateway case won't accept standard ATX power supplies (again it's a possibility... I've seen some Dell cases that use special screws that won't allow you to unscrew them unless you have special tools).
those retail computers sellers (Dell, Gateway, Compaq, etc.) do everything just to prevent you from tampering with the guts of their computers...with the sole purpose of saving money
well they dont save money from that. they lose money when they make things custom, but later on they earn it back when the only place you can get a replacement from is them ;)
true...but it favors them in the end...
