This sounds like an internet connection problem, not a problem with your system. Call your ISP Tech Support.
id also scan for spyware using spybot search and destroy - http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10289035.html?tag=lst-0-2

Try a speed test from somewhere like http://www.dslreports.com/. I was having a similar problem once and the speed test showed an upload speed of 4kbps  or something rediculous like that. I called the ISP and it turned out a node in my area was acting up... they fixed it and problem solved!
if that doesnt work...reformat
hahah what a noob responce ;)...but yeah u could always reformat....fixes everything :)
I think it was danny who had that as his sig lol. I always reformat. Thats y my drive is partitioned ;)
reformat is always the way to go :D

I had some trouble with Web sites timing out recently...... after installing firefox i realised it was something to do with flash..... except the macromedia site was one of them that couldn't be accessed so i couldnt get the plugin. Had new mobo arriving anyway so was uninstalling lots of stuff to give me room to defrag my data partition....and after a while getting rid of stuff I managed to get through to www.macromedia.com and managed to get flash working again. Just a thought.... and BTW.... the reinstall fixed everything else ;-)

Before you do anything as drastically as reformatting, first try power-cycling your modem. That means disconnect the power to the modem, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect the power. This gets the modem to do a reset of its system and this may get your connection back to normal. The other thing to try is to use the ipconfig command (or winipcfg). Once launched, try releasing and reacquiring your ip address. This may get your ethernet adapter to recognize the ip address.
