I'm getting a new 3 ghz Northwood in the near future (I hope) and need some suggestions for a CPU cooler. I've been looking at the Vantec Aeroflow.

got some extra money? go for a thermalright heatsink the SLK948U would be the best choice with a good 92mm fan.

It looks like a ****************************** to put together with all the parts and stuff. Is there a simpler one like a heatsink that is dedicated to the P4?

I would suggest the SP-94 by ThermalRight.... They're actually not that hard to install and most of them have P4 clips to clip it into the stock retention bracket.... But I would still recommend going ahead and hard mounting it to the mainboard.

That cooler is EXPENSIVE! Holy crap! Umm...is there any in the range of <40 bucks?

i have an Aeroflow hooked up with my 2500+ Barton...in my opinion its hella loud...the loudest thing in my case even with 5 fans...but in54n3 on the forums has one too and he oc'ed his 2500+ to 3200+ speeds...so i guess its good...

I had an aeroflow previously before getting my 947U/Tornado. A Tornado running at half speed is almost silent, but the aeroflow is not that loud and you would be easily able to oc a 2500+ to 3200+ without worrying about the temps

33C case 44C cpu rite now...the aeroflow usually keeps my cpu 11C higher then my case (during the summer)

Whats wrong with the stock fan/heatsink? before you go out and spend money you don't need to. You may hit your OC limit before you run out of cooling. I have a 2.8 prescott running around 45 C with stock cooling and the fan runs around 2600 rpm. When i oc my 2.4 B, it never went above 46 C even when I hit the limit at 3 gig. The only thing that changed, was the fan speed, which went from 2600, to 3400rpm. I have also seen AMD 2500 Bartons run at 3200+ with stock heatsink and no heat issues. If you are not overclocking, an aftermarket fan is a waste of money, in my opinion.

The Coolermaster Hyper-6 is apparently the best P4 cooler. It also looks really cool. Directron has it for $45 which is cheaper than the SP-94.

Jet 4? Yuck :p No offense. I'd never get a heatsink for looks.
