I was "re-pricing" my new rig...to see how much it costs now to when i bought parts in April...

when i came up to adding the mobo into the newegg cart...this came up...

http://www.newegg.com/app/SearchProductResult.asp?DEPA=0

im guessing the Abit NF7-S2 is the original NF7-S Rev 2.0...and the Abit NF7-S2G is the NF7-M?...i donno they look different too...with diff color pci slots and chipset coolers...wtf?

~EDIT~

ahhh interesting:

Only difference I see are that the IDE slots are now switched in their position... Thats really the only difference I see, I dunno what any of those have that my NF7-S Rev 2 doesnt.

Whatever the differences might be, the NF7-S2 is *NOT* the NF7-S Rev 2, because they are treated as different on the Abit website. The NF7-S Rev 2 is still the better overclock from what I've heard.

I wonder if anybody will come up with some technical differences, I'd sure like to know myself.

Ginsu543

Well, I checked out the Abit website, and the main differences between the NF7-S and the NF7-S2 seems to be that the NF7-S2 doesn't have SoundStorm and MaxFID (which allows the mobo to use more cpu multipliers, giving you more overclocking options) like the NF7-S does. It also doesn't seem to have cpu hardware thermal protection. The NF7-SG2 is like the NF7-S2 mobo but with Gigabit LAN.

EWeezy

so they basically suck? lol...the normal NF7 series is much better right?

wtf is Gigabit LAN...saw that too and was confused

Ginsu543

Yeah, overall the NF7-S is better than the NF7-S2. However, I would love to have Gigabit LAN on my NF7-S... why couldn't they come up with a version of NF7-S that has Gigabit (just call it NF7-SG)? Gigabit LAN means that your LAN connection has a bandwidth of 1 Gigabit per second as opposed to the 10/100T standard we have now (10 bits/100 bits per second). It allows for superfast broadband connections.

*Gigabit

And yes, there sure is : )

And yes, they still sell the NF7-S. Newegg has them for $92 (the price fluctuates a bit).

only if u have gigabit lan all around includin ur router and wut not

Pardon me if this sounds pretty rude, but your opinion must not be based on anything factual. Gigabit is 100/1000 whereas non-gigabit is 10/100.
Just by comparing the numbers, you can see that it is literally 10 times faster. Suppose you had two computers at home and you wanted to transfer your music collection of 100 gigs from one to the other. If you did not have gigabit, it would take you 133.33 minutes, over two hours. Suppose you did have gigabit, transfering 100 gigs of music would now only take you 13.33 minutes.

Still think it doesn't make a difference?

GanymedeTen
07-28-04, 07:16 PM
Put more simply, 10/100 lan allows you up to 12.5 MB's a second of transfer speed where Gigabit(100/1000) allows you up to 125 MB's a second.

Not if your router isnt gigabit guys... plus it wont make a difference in internet speeds...

Ginsu543

Both sides are right. Gigabit does allow more bandwidth but only if the entire network is wired for Gigabit LAN. At this point, the only real advantage of Gigabit is intranet file exchange. It won't help internet speeds because the bandwidth used for internet access is not high enough to take full advantage of the extra throughput Gigabit offers. I just think it's bragging rights to have Gigabit LAN, that's all. :D

Obviously you need a Gigabit router, that's like trying to use an X800 playing a game at 1600X1200 using a 15 inch monitor that only supports 1280x1024.

Pardon me for assuming you would be smart enough to realize that buying a new NIC without the requitsite hardware would not work.

*Edit*

Everything I said previous to this post was based on numbers. How can that be anything BUT factual?

P.S. Why are you being hostile? I wasn't.

You must be unfamilliar with HTML. You use brackets to do things like <b>bold</b> or <i>italics</i>.

Try it this way. You must be a professional web designer, your knowledge of HTML is so extensive.

Personally I think it was a little rude GanymedeTen. He was asking a question really, and then giving an opinion, and if he is misinformed, you don't really need to shove it in his face, just point out the mistake. This is all assuming that neither of you guys had posts deleted and I missed something

I did edit your post to save space though Ganymede. The info you had in what I deleted was good though :D.

There is no reason for you to exacerbate what has already ended.

Go talk about computers now.
