Basically WINXP wont regognise full amount of hdd! What can i do?

fretis, have you tried installing SP1?

You may want to slipstream SP1 and start over. I've heard of some problems with upgrading and still not reclaiming HD space.

Another place to look is in your BIOS. There may be some setting there. You may have to flash it.

Hope that helps.

Sorry.Didnt work.I have installed SP1 and flashed the bios but nothing happens.I even downloaded a utility from maxtor website 'big drive enabler' but that didnt work either.I cannot waste 26 gigs because of the stupid winxp limitation.I HAVE TO DO something. You all here suppose to be experts or technicians in some way. There must be a solution!

Did you go through the knowledge base link I gave you?

Check if your BIOS is 48-bit compatable.

Make sure you have the latest ATAPI drivers.

Make sure you have the latest hotfixes too.

If you're still stuck I suggest you slipstream SP1 and/or follow the steps on that link to create an unattended setup which will enable 48-bit LBA. Then reinstall Windows.

I never claimed to be an expert... just trying to help ;)

I solved the problem by myself.I downloaded parition magic 8 and created the 2 rescue floppies.I booted the comp from the diskettes and made a partition of the WHOLE drive.Just as simple as that!
