shame my soltek mobo I have doesn't have the 4 holes for mounting the sp 97 heatsink
it would be nice to get one of them , I still might. I would just need to work out an alternative way of munting it on the cpu :D

I modded my northbridge heatsink yesterday, seem like only the soltek mobos shipped to the states have an active northbrige cooler so I decided to recycle my super socket 7 heatsink cooler into a northbrige cooler.

It was an easy one as the old northbrige had two holes and some springloaded pins, I used the old hetsink to measure out the pin spacings and as it turned out the heatsink was too short to drill the holes so I filed grooves at each end so the bolts had room .

I the made a metal plate to go in the slot where the old spring clip went and drilled the plate to suit the hole spacing on the mobo. next I used the springs from the original heatsink and nuts , bolts and most importantly some insulating washers.

The socket 7 heatsink had a thermal pad on it so I left it on as I don't have and thermal paste at the moment , I bolted the heatsink on with the heads of the bolts through the mobo and up in through the grooves/metal plate, I then used the springs to give an even tension to the bolts so the sink would sit properly:D. It bought the northbrige down to a nice cool stable temp, I barely gets warm at all now:D:D:D

edit - the mod has definately cooled things down nice a stable;)
