View Full Version : NF7-S Winbond File Confusion

I currently own a NF7-2 Rev2.0 board. Im currently using the Winbond software which came off the original motherboard cd and to the best of my knowledge the original bios.

Since I never ran into any problems I never patched neither the bios or the winbond software. It was only recently I noticed that the Vcore winbond reports is much higher than what it actually is (according to the bios). CPU-Z reports the same setting in the bios and I figured the problem was just due to out of date software.

I went here http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/drivers.php?categories=1&model=6 and decided to grab the newest winbond only to see they have 2 seperate versions based on bios (1.3 and 1.6). To make matters more complicated I went to the bios section to grab the aforementioned versions only to notice there was nothing readily indicating which bios fell into those categories (http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/bios_revision.php?categories=1&model=6).

Im sure someone out there has run into this bit of confusion can anyone help me out?

check the vcore in the bios, maybe your mobo is just over volting, mine over volts the vdimm

I went ahead and checked the bios for myself to make sure, it would seem I never lowered my vcore from when I had the processor OC'd to 2.2ghz. I went ahead and dropped it from 1.7 to 1.685 and checked both winbond and cpu-z. Both programs fluctuate between 1.64 and 1.70. Im assuming this is acceptable.

As for the updated software and the rather confusing pages on Abit's site, any ideas?

Fluctuation between 1.65v and 1.70v is no big deal. As for monitoring software I'd stick with the one that is reading closest to what the BIOS is reporting for the actual temperatures and voltages.

I like the new Abit EQ monitor...it looks pretty cool too.

Yeah, It gives a quick temp read, doesnt use up a ton of your resources to run like Nvidia System Utility dannnnng... Plus its a good way to monitor your rails. Oh, and its about as swanks as ive seen, very nice look.

Im guessing thats what I would get if I installed the updated hardware moniter from abit's site to replace the software that came on the CD. Is it possible for the bios to report voltages incorrectly? I know its possible to figure out the voltages externally but Im weary about putting voltage probes anywhere near my powered up computer. Anyone ever read about the this board reporting incorrectly and later being fixed by a bios update?

Im almost certain im using the stock bios which came with the motherboard. Not to sure how to check otherwise.
