I can't work out a way around the Websense website blocking program, so I can check my hotmail. It won't let me go to sites like webwarper.net which I thought would be a way around it, saying
The Websense category "Proxy Avoidance" is filtered.
Is Websense too clever to be beaten? Does anyone know a way?
My school used to be setup as a proxy... I dont know that much about it, other than it sucked.
i seem to remember there might be some way of avoiding it using something called a binary ip address then the proxy won't realise what sites you are visiting - tbh i don't know much about it but i am sure if you google it you could find out more
<a href="http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=websense"> this </a> is what maddox had to say about websense :P

Oh well I'll just have live with websense. At least I'm protected from harmful spam. Maddox has definitely got them worked out. I see u've got the 775 monitor. I've got the 795. Is there any difference between them?

i think they are pretty much identical techinally but the 775 has the normal buttons on the front and the 795 has the heat (i think) respose buttons on the front - not sure about max refresh but that may be slightly better on the 795

I'd been wondering why the buttons didn't respond to anything apart from my fingers.

Actually I just tried warming the pencil up to body temperature by holding it in my hand for ten minutes and it still didn't work, so I'm not sure what makes the monitor able to tell what is a finger so accurately. There has to be some genuinely practical use for this technology!
my school uses some Symantec web filtering device...i cant seem to get around it either...then again...they are idiots and dont block many bad sites...but they do happen to block email...and all system folders have passwords on them and are hidden too...as well as Dos...
i tried the easy .bat file in notepad...but now thats blocked!...lol

You can get around these!!! wahoo, but you have to do some research from home. I have done a search on google for anti - censorship and there is an organization that is against it and provideds a list of web sites that you can use to penetrate these filters. I will post them when I get home, I just found out our work filter is working again, ALSO there is a web based IM (MSN) for those offices with blocked IM ports. There are ways to get around everything! :p

one way to avoid websense is to type
https:\\www.proxify.com
it has to have the S, and then it will display some security BS just click yes and browse from that. try it sometime.

hey guys... im new. i have generally the same problem as you guys. one way you can get around it is to simply go to google and then go to language tools. then, translate a page that is blocked by websense. the only problem with that is that your pictures wont show up. another way to get passed it is to go to tools, internet options, connections, LAN settings, and put the proxy settings in. for me, its 66.119.33.134. and the port is 8000. this will get rid of websense completly, but some computers block internet options. thats all the help i can give you guys now, and if i come up with anything new, ill let you guys know

I am also searching for a proxy avoidance site but all the ones I've tried so far have been blocked.
I have even tried registering a domain and pointing it to a site and this doesn't help.
Can you post more sites that I could try
i have found a new proxy to get round websense it is www.browserjump.com

i don't know what sort of content blocking software my highschool used; all i know is it was extremely easy to get around - for a while you could get to any site if you simply put in http://sitename.com; leaving out the www, but then they got wise to that, wich is when i found out that if i made a link to a site or system folder in microsoft word, and clicked it, it would bring me right there.
not to mention if your schools computers are set up in classic winxp fashion (where you click a username, then it logs you on), and you want to get into the administrator account, it's not that hard.
most computers i've used that have XP on them havnt had their administrator account disabled (or password protected) when xp was installed. so just hit F8 during bootup to get into safe mode, and a user account called Administrator should show up on the xp logon screen. in my experience they rarely have a password on it - just hit enter if you're prompted for a pass, and it should log you right on. viola, instant administrative access to that particular machine. while you're at it, you might as well set yourself up your own password protected account, then delete the administrator account. oh what fun it is to piss off computer lab teachers...
edit: wtf, the original post here is from 2004, and the most recent one before reecec's is 2005... reecec seeing as this is your first post, welcome to the forums - but fyi, i don't think they like it when people revive ancient long-dead threads here...

Run Smoothwall at home with the Dansguardian mod, set it to log only and not block, then port forward to the proxy port through an SSH session using Putty if you can get it on the computer behind the web filter. Using a USB drive works.
(In Putty, this would mean adding L8080 192.168.0.1:8080 or similar to the tunnels section which means you set your local web browser to the address localhost and port 8080. If they've locked your machine's browser, try a USB drive with portable Firefox on it and set the proxy option there.)
Or run Windows XP Pro at home and set port forwarding on your router to the right port and then start a remote desktop session from the blocked PC to the home PC and surf through that one.
(Provided they don't block the remote desktop ports. If need be and you can get SSH running, forward remote desktop over SSH but since a Windows XP box listens on localhost for remote desktop by default, instead of port forwarding by aiming at localhost/127.0.0.1 use 127.0.0.2 and that should work as in using 127.0.0.2: (remoted desktop port) in the address field when you open RDP.)
Or run one of a various web proxy softwares on your home machine and forward that port on your router.
Make sure to protect yourself and use strong passwords.

There is another new solution on http://www.surfnolimit.com (http://www.surfnolimit.com)working very good which allow you to browse and use any application like Msn mesenger , yahoo messenger with webcam and sound.
You can also go on website using rtmp flash protocol even if your firewall block these ports
For me this was the ultimate solution to avoid proxy and firewall

Circumventor is the best tool to use for this. Basically make your own proxy at your house. http://www.peacefire.org/circumventor/simple-circumventor-instructions.html
Once you install it, all you need is say a disc with the link on it. Open the disc, click on the link. It will bring you to a site hosted on your home computer. All you have to do from there is type in where you want to browse and it will go there. It has trouble with some things.
BTW I did Websense administration for a year. It's all done by the computer's IP. If you can find a computer in the building that has full access, all you need to know is its ip. If you can get any type of access to the local admin account, or if they have the permissions set where you can change the ip, you are good to go.
Circumventor does have problems with some sites related to Java, and other random plugins.

I actually signed up to this forum so that I could ask for your help on how to setup Circumventor, but I just searched Google again for "proxy avoidance" and I found a really good piece of software called Lozdodge (http://www.proxy-avoidance.com/).
It does the same thing as Circumventor (it hosts a proxy avoidance website from your home PC), but it is a lot easier to setup and it has a more user friendly interface as well as loads of cool features. It’s free too (yay!):
http://www.proxy-avoidance.com/
From what I can see it's really fast, but some websites which are using JavaScript don't seem to display properly. Not too bothered though :p

I got a problem. What should I do if they block all the proxy avoiders? All the ones here are already blocked.

i hate websense...it used to be easy because there was a 'continue' button that let you enter the site for 'academic purposes' ,but they removed that and we can't go on anysite anymore. They even blocked the section 'tasteless'. How sad. I must find a proxy avoidance site thats not blocked...its my lifelong goal

Why not just do something just like a proxy - install remote-access (such as Gotomypc; or the FREE version of Logmein (http://www.logmein.com)) software on your home computer; then you can access your home PC as though you were sitting right in front of it, from anywhere in the world as long as you have internet access. There would be nothing to install on the schools (or wherever has the proxy)'s computer; because to access your home PC remotely you would just go to logmein.com and log in from there. I don't think many proxies would have logmein or gotomypc blocked...

If you have linux based computer you can just SSH into that, use a Dynamic Tunnel and point Firefox (or Firefox Portable) at that, (it will be a SOCKS5 Proxy)
Works like a charm :) because no-one blocks your home connection
