What's the difference between the K8N Neo Platinum and the K8N Neo-FSR, other than $15.00?

well i have the platinum and i've had nothing but problems with it. First it was giving my wrong temp readings. Which they fixed in the new bios version 1.4. But with it came new problems. In fact i just recently got totally screwed when a friend hooked up his external harddrive in the firewire port. It destroyed my motherboard and now i'm haveing to send and retrieve a new one. After this happend i couldn't even boot up at all, it would turn on with nothing on the screen start to boot and then just shut off. Then after a few times of that, it wouldn't even turn on. I would suggest you go to the msi forum and look at what people are saying and problems they are having before you buy this motherboard. Even though it got alot of good reviews, i've had nothing but problems with it.

Thanks for the advice, but I'd still like to know the difference between the Platinum and the FSR, if anyone knows.

The only real difference between these 2 boards is there are 3 firewire headers on the plat and none on the fsr board

have you tried your fire wire ports on your motherboard? Cause i would say that's 3 ways to kill it.

No ive actually never heard about that, what was his problem specifically?

it wasnt exactly just a usb problem...his mobo caught on fire taking his comp with it...and msi claimed it to be a usb problem...

I was told that the USB plugg on the mobo is not of the standard pin arrangement and will not work correctly with front case USB wires built into cases. If you want to use them you are to use them with MSI USB wires ONLY.

...In the future I will never buy from MSI again, or build systems for people with MSI products. I will also never suggest that anyone buy products from them. It's not that their is any problem with what they offer, but in the event that something goes wrong, they do not stand up behind their products and offer the service/support that they should.

hmm...and shiz is using a neo plat and recommending it too :p :D

anyrate here's a link (http://forum.pcstats.com/showthread.php?t=19190&highlight=fire) ;)

I am still uneasy about msi products...LOL

the USB headers shorted and created a small fire destroying his 9700, and some other stuff, MSI was a pain in the arse. it was a while back, we all boycotted MSI for that back then.

I have had no problems with my MSI K8N Neo Plat. It's been the best board I have had. My friend has the FSR and has no problems. Maybe MSI has problems makeing them right I don't know.

my neo platinum has had a few problems. a few of the pins fell out of the floppy header, installing heatsinks is a biach because the processor is right next to the agp slot, and they glued the backplate on and when i tried to replace it with the one from thermalright, i gouged the mobo with a screwdriver.
After this happend i couldn't even boot up at all, it would turn on with nothing on the screen start to boot and then just shut off.

wich leads me to my next question: <a href="http://forum.pcstats.com/showthread.php?p=222618#post222618">here</a>
