Hi everybody !

A friend of mine bought this motherboard (ASRock P4S61) to replace his old one and called me in to install it for him. Since I replaced it, I have not been able to "see" any of the IDE drives on bootup.

I have connected the IDE drives as follows :
primary master : 80GB Maxtor (new)
primary slave : 4GB Seagate
secondary master : Samsung DVD ROM (new)
secondary slave : Samsung CD writer (new)

1) If any of the primary devices are connected, the boot-up IDE detection takes ages, it is impossible to get into the BIOS. If given enough time, it gives up and shows the specs screen and does the floppy seek.
2) If the primary devices are disconnected, the IDE detection says "No device connected" to ALL 4 (very quickly), i.e. no secondary devices detected either. However, then I am able to enter the BIOS.

All devices are set on CABLE SELECT at the moment (I have tried different settings on ALL of them, though).

All the devices work fine when plugged into other PC's.

Computer specs :
MOBO : As above.
PSU : 280W
CPU : Pentium 4 2.4GHz
RAM : 256 MB PC2100
AGP slot : open (onboard graphics)
PCI slot 1 : 56k modem
PCI slot 3 : Creative 5.1

Any ideas ?
Thanks

Welcome to PCStats WhiteGoat!!

Have you tried just one HDD? And if you try just one see if it has a specific master or single option through the jumpers. Other than that you may need to look into returning the board, the IDE controller may be pooched.
