True to his word, Jack over at Thermalright put up the entry in on the site for the heatsink. Is it me or does that thing look really wacky? Almost looks like an XP-90 cept the pipes suspend the fins in mid air.

hey, bluegreenshxt

I noticed your using a deathstar just like me. Mines the 7200 Rpm 30gb version. Have you run into any problems with yours yet? Every few years mine begins to make a horrible clicking noise alerting me that its time to rerun the IBM hd utility and fix the bad sectors.

As for the sink, I hope so as well. I was hoping it was going to be a XP-90 with Socket A 3-lug clips (its aluminum so no need to backplate it really) but I guess they opted for a different route. One things for sure, if the picture is really how the heatsink looks it has quite a bite less surface area than the XP-90 which makes me sad face in rl.

well if theres one good thing to be said when comparing this sink to the SP-97 is the superior heatpipe placement. Routing them to the outer edge like that means better airflow from the outer edge of the fan.

Im not sure why theyre switching to all these aluminum/copper hybrid sinks with nickel plating. Wasnt aware nickel was even that good of a heat transfer medium. Does anyone know if the price of copper has taken a steep increase in recent months because other than that I cant really think of a reason to switch away from something like a pure copper design.

The heatpipes are also placed so that they are higher up over the core...as heat rises...so the higher the heat pipes, the more efficient the transfer and dissapation of heat..

As for my deathstar, its still running great. I think it made weird noises (whir whirrr) once for a few secs when my comp was placed sideways. It didn't get detected twice by the sata bios probably because of the ide to sata converter that i used...

That thing looks retarded. They should have made a Socket A heatsink that supports 120mm fans. If they SI-90 doesn't perform as well as the SP-97, Thermalright is gonna look stupid.
