The MSI mobo and burner I have in my sig is giving me problems. The DVD burner is reverting to PIO transfer mode NOT Ultra DMA 66 like is should be. I have all the newest drivers and firmware for bios, burner, chipset, windows, and IDE controller.
I have changed cables, positions(ide1 and ide2) master and slave and even cable select has be tried. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this because I cant play dvds or burn them.
Its not the dvd burner because it works in another computer and the old one I have (a 4x liteon) did the same thing with this setup. If you need more info about the mobo or dvd burner click these links here http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo_Platinum&class=mbmodel=K8N_Neo_Platinum&class=mb OR http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/english/e_product/e_sohw1633s.asp

It may be the motherboard. I continually read posts to this forum about MSI boards and the problems folks have with them. I know that you were going for more speed when you went from the Asus and an AthlonXP to the MSI with an Athlon64 but your original set-up was a great one. Do you still have the old board and cpu? Did the Lite-On work with that board? I have an internal Lite-On SOHW-832S (dual-layer) and an external Lite-On (do not know the model off the top of my head - connected to my laptop) and both work perfectly. My internal one is slaved to a Memorex 16X Dual-layer burner connected to an Abit NF7-S (Rev. 2) and I have not had any problems (except for one software disc that could be read - software for my UPS).

yeah, the motherboard is very sloppy, i'm shur you've seen the msi forums? I'd be carefull though when switching the cables and stuff, your supposed to unhook the power cables from the psu to the board before you do that stuff. The instuction say this and i've had a problem when hooking in a firewire to the case it some rendered my whole board dead. Usb keyboard and mouses are giving people problems, wrong temp readings, and onboard sounds issues, lol

Other than having incorrect temp readings before the latest BIOS, other than that the board is running pretty perfectly for me
