Hi, I am aiming for a virtually silent pc and i bought the Q-Tec Big fan psu to quieten things down a bit. It does the job well, but my room is often hot so the temp controlled fan is probably on high all the time which is too loud for me :p . Will it be safe to get a Vantec 120mm Stealth fan (or similar, suggestions?) and attach it to a fan controller for speed controlling without frying my whole rig?

Thanks

it is when my room is cold as when i came back from a weekend away with no heating on!

I don't mind the psu getting a bit hot, but not too much that it'll damage it.

Does anyone know what the max safe operating temp is, and if i'll be able to change the fan?

Cheers

most PSU's begin to drop thier wattage outputs at around 25-30C inside the PSU. I would guess 50C highmark but im sure thats wrong. A surefire way to find this info out is to check out the specs sheet on your PSU. Or check out the sticker on the PSU and see if they list some operating temps.
