okay, i'm used to clicking on a picture file once and the little preview comes up for it, but the biggest pet peeve i have discovered with 2k is that it completely loads Windows Media Player with just the buttons and the slider in the same place as the preview. screenshot

anyone know off the top of their head how to make that not do that anymore? i've looked in tons of menus and settings, and can't find anything that sounds related.

Revived this olllld thread to see if anyone knew yet? I've been digging through the registry for two or three hours and I can't find anything that looks like it'll take care of that. It's probably something that needs to be added.

I figured I'd put in what I believe is the real name for it. I was shutting down one day when I was waiting an eternity for it to "load" the miniplayer, and "media sink window" was not responding and was being ended.

Thanks again in advance.

9. I wouldn't ever use 10. I've looked through every option actually IN the player, and there's nothing to disable that. I've looked through folder options, with no avail.

OMFG wow. I know this is beyond resurrecting an old thread, but I was emptying out my junk e-mail address and saw a subject with "Media Sink Window", so I opened it. This guy emailed me through SETI (from here to begin with) and told me how to make it go away.I would have replied there except they would have required me to register. This should work:

Right click anywhere in any folder (icon area).
Click "Customize This Folder". A wizard will appear.
Click "Next".
Ensure that "Customize" and "Choose or edit an HTML template for this folder" are both selected.
Click "Next".
Ensure that "Standard" is selected. This will be important later.
Check the box for "I want to edit this template". A NOTEPAD window will appear.
Click "Edit" on the menubar, then click "Find...". A FIND dialog box will appear.
Type this into the dialog: "= GetF". Do not type the quotes. There is a space between the equals sign and the GetF.
Click "Find Next". A new line will be highlighted.
Close the dialog box window.
Move the input cursor to the start of this line (the very first column).
Type "// F*** YOU MICROSOFT" here. The rest of the line can remain in tact. The two forward slashes are important. Feel free to use artistic liberties in regards to the text.
Click "File" on the menubar and click "Save".
Close the notepad window.
Click "Finish" on the task wizard.
Repeat steps 1 through 16 for every folder on your harddrive. Good luck on that one.
I know that seems like a lot of folders but just be thankful to Microsoft that this "Setting" is so easy and intuitive to correct!

-RobertThank you Robert for that contribution. You really only need to do this in the folders that are being a pain. I've tried several different things to make this process easier, and I haven't come up with any positive results. I even modified the global template and that didn't work.

You can negate (throw away) that previous post about modifying the folder settings. I figured it out. Looking at the .htt file that gets created by modifying the folder settings, there's a CLSID (class ID) I found which is just below where Robert said to put the line comment (//):Preview.innerHTML = '<p>' +
'<object ID=MediaPlayer class=Movie(or Sound) classid="clsid:22D6F312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95">' ....So I copied that CLSID and started at the top of the registry and did a search for that class, and found a branch in HKey Classes Root, and the first thing I saw was "WindowsMediaPlayer". Backed up the entire key and deleted it, rebooted and now, it's a GLOBAL fix for it. When you click on a media file, the preview doesn't show up anymore, but WMP still opens and plays the files if you double-click them or hit enter, etc.
